DeFord Contracting Inc. is looking for an experienced Estimator with concrete estimating experience for Civil Construction projects in and around the Greater Edmonton Area. DeFord is a leading contractor in Edmonton, Alberta, specializing in municipal road projects, subdivision land development, parking lots, and other key infrastructure projects.

Responsibilities:

• Review drawings and specifications to prepare complete and accurate cost estimates
• Perform quantity take-offs both manually and using software such as Insite
• Prepare detailed estimates for concrete scopes including sidewalks, curbs, gutters, slabs, and related infrastructure
• Complete take-offs and pricing for additional scopes including earthworks, base, and asphalt paving
• Set up and prepare estimates using in-house Excel-based programs
• Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotations; issue pricing requests as required
• Request tender bonds in accordance with tender specifications
• Compile and submit complete quotations and tender bids to general contractors, municipalities, owners, and engineering/consulting firms
• Coordinate survey requirements with in-house surveyors for estimating and progress claims
• Arrange execution of contract documents and purchase orders, including WCB clearance, statutory declarations, and bonding requirements
• Issue purchase orders and subcontracts to suppliers and subcontractors
• Prepare job packages and supporting documentation for field staff
• Compile project documentation required for construction (e.g., ECO Plans, Traffic Accommodation Plans, OSCAMs, ROWCAPs, permits, and additional pricing)
• Attend project coordination meetings and follow up on action items and documentation requirements
• Coordinate with field teams to track project progress and prepare monthly progress claims
• Maintain organized records of estimates, tenders, and project documentation
• Perform other related duties as required

Qualifications:

• 3+ years of estimating experience in civil construction
• Strong experience estimating concrete work; considered a strong asset
• Experience estimating earthworks, base, and paving work is beneficial
• Proficiency in reading and interpreting construction drawings and specifications
• Experience with estimating software (Insite or similar) and strong Excel skills
• Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills
• Ability to manage multiple tenders and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
