I applied through university. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at USAA (Phoenix, AZ) in Sep 2019
Interview
I applied online as soon as the job opening was posted. A month later I attended a career fair where I spoke to the staff and also attended a separate on-campus event they had in the evening.
A week later, they had an issue contacting me and I couldn't reply to them because they texted me from a number that didn't receive messages. Eventually, I was given a time and date for an on-campus interview.
There were two senior engineers. One would write down your answers and the other would ask the questions. The interview consisted of a lot of it was behavioral questions with one coding question and a few technical questions. The coding question was done on a piece of paper and they allowed you to use pseudocode.
At the end of the interview, I was told I would hear of a decision in 2-4 weeks. I also received an email that said that their goal is to notify you of a decision in 2 weeks.
When I got in touch with a recruiter 2-3 weeks later, they said that the managers had not inputted feedback. I followed up a week after the initial email and they said I should hear back by the beginning of last week (it is now 9 days past the suggested timeframe). When I inquired again 2 weeks after that email, no response.
I completely understand if I performed poorly on the interview or other candidates had an edge on me. However, I spent time and effort to land the interview and I would appreciate at least an automated rejection notice. It has been 2 months since I interviewed and over 3 months since I applied. Not saying I should get special treatment as a veteran, but for a company that pays lip service to hiring military, ghosting your veteran applicants doesn't provide a favorable impression.

Very relaxed setting. Applied before a university career fair and was requested to schedule an interview while the recruiters were on campus. Very nice, friendly people. Very relaxed interview up until the technical portion.
