Avoid Gateneau office at any cost

Pros

Nothing positive I can recall

Cons

Family business with highly political environment. Promoting full time employees with college degrees and limited industry knowledge, to management roles. The main goal of that guys, is to keep contractors on the leash. Humiliate contractors and make their lives miserable , so they will perform better. Management changing contractors faster that socks. Every your step is watched and if your manager or team lead will complain, you will be shown the door immediately without a word.

Pros

Great people to work with Working for International high profile customers Great work-life balance but expect to work long hours to meet aggressive deadlines

Cons

Always in rush mode. No time to learn technology/concepts before applying them leading to lengthier and bad implementation No clear development process Not good at setting customer expectation and controlling project cost

Avoid unless you are really desperate!

Pros

Ability to work remotely, nice office, free food, good technical team.

Cons

Assertiveness is the most valued quality at Smith - incompetence is not important if you can say your opinion with force. Smith has many many VPs and directors, everybody wonders what they do all day, management even discusses the incompetence of some of them openly. Those in the key non-technical positions don't care about software quality or about being honest with the customers, the number one priority is revenue, at all costs. Those who don't share this point of view either hide in denial or leave the company.
