    I worked at Manulife full-time

    Pros

Good manager, relative freedom to work on stuff.
    Meaningful work.

    Cons

Too corporate, a lot of people busy discussing stuff instead of actually doing work.
As an intern, that doesn't affect you as much though.

    Advice to Management

My advice is to HR. You may want to be more and easily available to listen to the employees. There are is a particular department in Operations that overworks the employees. If you counted how many have needed to take leaves of absence you would get a hint. Also there is a particular leader that allows racist jokes. She was also not very respectful of different life styles making inappropriate comments and choices for the team. We can't give names but if you were just more open to listening to the employees you could improve retention. I went downstairs once to try to speak to someone in HR and a young man sent me back telling me I needed an appointment. When you are trying to sneak to speak to HR you just don't have the luxury of making appointments. This is not the way to be open to employees... This happened in your location at 200 Bloor St.

I have been working at Manulife full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    - Lots of internal job opportunities
    - Generally good benefits
    - Flexible work arrangements for many positions
    - Opportunity to travel in some positions

    Cons

    - Many areas are understaffed and overworked
    - There's a lack of investment in a lot of the internal systems
    - Most of the products are oversold and undersupported
    - Most projects are done with minimal planning and super short deadlines
    - They will block advancement for people who are really good at their current job for months or even years
    - Despite claiming that they want to equally weigh their employees, customers, and stakeholders' needs, they clearly focus mostly on the stakeholders
    - Too many people in higher levels avoid accountability when problems occur
    - Too many of the support positions are expected to also be salespeople
    - Most areas aren't allowed to tell the customers when they are wrong or something can't be done

    Advice to Management

    - Invest more in improving existing products and processes before creating new ones
    - Take a little more time to investigate and plan major projects rather than setting crazy deadlines
    - Stop blocking people from advancing just because they're good at their jobs
    - Get better about building good teams rather than relying too much on the few good employees
    - Better reporting and tracking of accountability would help lower-level employees feel less taken advantage of
    - The customer can be wrong
    - Stop selling things the system can't do
