    I worked at Manulife full-time

    Pros

Although I was recently "retired" from Manulife, I have to say that my 15 years with the company was overall quite positive.

Although I'm no longer an employee, I continue to be a shareholder. Wishing Manulife success and a share price closer to $30 within the next year

    Cons

Unrelenting, profound changes taking place. Was nerve racking but changes necessary to position Manulife for continued success.

I have been working at Manulife full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

My managers have always been supportive of a good work life balance. The pension and stock matching programs are decent. Some people complain about salary compared to other companies but the salaries are pretty good for a 37.5 hour work week (where you would work 45+ hours/week at the other companies).
There is a very supportive "WorkSmart" program to allow for mobility/working from home.
The CEO seems to be very focused in driving change to bring the company into the Agile world.
Great support for career development options within the company.

    Cons

Despite the drive to move fast and bring change to the organization, some things still do move slow. It's a 125+ year old insurance company/bank so the pace of some tasks can seem "glacial" at times.

    Advice to Management

Break down the barriers to change, continue to look for improvements in your team and don't forget the "little guys" at the end of the day -- they're the ones helping to achieve the greatness we're all striving for!

    I worked at Manulife full-time

    Pros

Large organization with a bit of room for growth

    Cons

Business processes and technology used were archaic

    Advice to Management

Do the managers get evaluated? Some of them were a bit incompetent.
Focus on researching some of the available technologies for improving the management of clients' account and policies.

I worked at Manulife full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Flexible hours
    Working remotely
    Not much accountability

    Cons

Low pay, poor management, no job security, very low employee morale, benefits are good but very expensive

    Advice to Management

Cut management by 50% as they are doing more harm than good

I have been working at Manulife full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The company offers good benefits in terms of retirement savings and health benefits. You are in a good position if you applied to your dream job right away. The work and life balance is great.

    Cons

I believe it all depends in which department you are, but in my department there is absolutely no training and the team is very unwelcoming. If you have questions, good luck asking the senior staff members or even management. Good luck if you want to apply to another role, once you get hired for a role, management would rather see you leave the company than offer you a higher position. You are not valued by management; they couldn't care less about their educated staff members. I have seen many previous colleagues leaving the company one by one for the same reasons. Also, forget about any raises in your salary, people have the same salary as 4 years ago.

    Advice to Management

Employees and clients should be treated with the same respect; it is easier and more cost efficient to value and promote internal employees as much as it is easier to keep clients and grow with them than always seeking new clients and employees.
