Workload not sustainable
Apr 26, 2023 - Short Term Disability Case ManagerRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Good benefits, salary, work from home
Cons
Workload is not manageable at all. You are expected to work 7.5 hour days but end up working closer to 9-10 hours just to stay afloat. You are also salaried so no paid overtime. You are expected to do the initial telephone assessments for new files, which can take 15-60 mins depending on the call. Oh and you often have to do these calls 15-20 times per day so you do the math on how much time that takes on top of managing your already high existing case load. It’s impossible to give the level of care and detail that the files require when you are constantly scrambling to keep up with tasks. You are also expected to attend monthly meetings or trainings which, although interesting and helpful to our careers, no one has time for. Half the case managers I spoke to listen absentmindedly in the background while trying to keep up with tasks. Concerns were brought up to management about the workload and I was told that although they do not want me to burn out, I still need to get it all done and just have to somehow work faster. Not helpful at all.

One of the worst to work for under pension!
May 13, 2023 - Pension AnalystRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Honestly cannot think of any. I’m sure other departments or positions may be different / better. I’m specifically referring to this department in my review.
Cons
* the HR sucks they do not know basic policies, nor ethics, nor a way to talk to employees & deliver news. (Just FYI I left the company myself) * toxic work environment, micromanaging, rules that do not make sense, lack of efficiencies & no wonder they have a huge turnover. No one would want to work here. * the pay is not worth the amount of work they make you do. * every dream is following whatever company policy they like, instead of following all of them, they just make their own rules. It sucks.

Under paying people because the employees like they’re doing good

Extremely interesting phone calls. You can learn a lot helping people. Quite nice to work from home. You still get to know your coworkers even if you’re in different cities. Most of the immediate managers are very nice it’s the upper management that is very disconnected.
Cons
The pay is pretty low. It’s not like the company doesn’t have the money look up the CEOs income if you want. It really feels like they’re taking advantage of people. When I left they were upping the pay but only at an incremental level to see if it helps with retention. That seems so cold to me they don’t care about people but then they’ll have meetings and tell you how much they care. Lots of the staff really wanna help humans and don’t realize they’re being taken advantage of. After a while you start to see the limits of the service and that is discouraging. The for-profit model of counselling doesn’t actually want to help people it just wants to get them back to work. So many people access the service need a lot more support and that feels hard to see. It’s hard knowing that you can’t fully support everyone who calls. You can access the EAP service for counselling but the actual counselling coverage and in the benefits is poor.
