I worked at Hydro One (More than a year)

    Pros

Company culture is probably one of the best in North America
    Job is very secure
Very easy path to get promotions and pay rise
They have a mentor-ship programs which allows all New Grad Engineers to get assigned mentors which really helps

    Cons

A lot of last minute work that happens in the Distribution network which could get really stressful at times
A bit old school regarding work discipline, for example, management disapproval for starting work later than 8 AM.
There is a lot of politics within the company, especially regarding new hiring of university/college graduates which could be annoying for some people.

    Advice to Management

    Keep up the good work!!

I have been working at Hydro One full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Good benefits package, opportunity to go on short term rotations to learn the business.

    Cons

A bit of a "old boy club", outside experience not valued very much

I worked at Hydro One full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    - Amazing work life balance
    - Flexible hours
    - Incredible health/life benefits/insurance
    - Defined Benefit Pension Plan (until 2016)
    - LOTS of opportunities for training and conferences
    - Moderate - but not great - pay

    Cons

    - UNION! No one does more than bare minimum (or much less, actually) because engineers are protected by the Society.
    - Progression and rewards not based on merit, but on the buddy system.

    Advice to Management

    - Employ a performance system that takes performance into account! I wouldn't have left if not for this reason.

I worked at Hydro One full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Moving to a customer focused company; Great work environment; Strong committment to employee development; Competitive renumeration and benefits.

    Cons

Very few cons. Working in a heavily regulated industry can be challenging but rewarding if you're up to it.

    Pros

Excellent place to work. They offer a lot of training and opportunities for development. Would recommend this company for anyone looking for an internship.

    Cons

The only downside (which was simultaneously a benefit) is the downtown location. Right next to Queen station and the Eaton Centre, so the commute was both quick yet insanely crowded.

    Advice to Management

I found my internship to have been very rewarding so I can't think of much. The only thing is to maybe find new training videos as the series we used seems to have been (at least from the music choices) from the late 80s to early 90s. That would have made that material more engaging.

    Pros

    - Work life balance
    - Friendly co-workers
    - Highly values safe working conditions
    - Purposeful work

    Cons

    - Work can get dull and repetitive
    - Lack of employee growth encouragement
    - Lack of incentive to improve work
    - Ideas get stalled in process

    Advice to Management

Continue to cut costs, however, do so in meaningful ways. Not penny wise and pound foolish.

    Pros

I've been with the company for over 6 years working as an Electrical engineer. The company put in a lot of resources on developing young engineers. The work is challenging and there's plenty of opportunities to learn and develop if you are motivated.

    Cons

There's not as much incentive to perform as other industries.

    Pros

Good teamworking environment with support from management. Highly Educated group of people that are happy to share their knowledge.

    Cons

Allthough the work environment is really good it can be very stressful at times as it is an ever-changing industry.
