I have been working at Hydro One full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Reasonable work / life balance depending on the team and department.

    Cons

Lack of quality in leadership. 60% of the management work force retired in the past 5 years leaving a huge knowledge deficit in the company. The move to a public company has created an environment where many new director and VP job roles have been created, but with no new staff underneath to do the work. At present, substantial pressure exists on the few qualified folks left.

I have been working at Hydro One part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great place to grow as an employee. Wide range of electrical task from building protection and control rack to installing high voltage equipment.

    Cons

For the most part there is a lot of traveling to be done, on company time as well as personal time.

    Advice to Management

Keeping employees close to home helps keep them happier which leads to a better family life and leads a more productive and happier work group.

I have been working at Hydro One full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Advancement opportunities, good pay, good benefits, defined pension. Highest level of safety. It's a world class utility. Extensive safety training, and plenty of opportunity to learn about various parts of a utility

    Cons

Unions, bureaucracy, it's hard to terminate people that are union protected. A lot of the trades now get hired as temporary-fulltime, with no guarantee of a permanent-fulltime. So prone to layoffs and getting moved around.

    Pros

Really comfortable with good pay. The work is not too stressful. Good company to stay a long time with and retire with.

    Cons

The job can be too slow paced and you don't learn that many new skills while on the job. The routine is kind of mundane and not too many changes
