I worked at Hydro One full-time

    Pros

Flexible hours, great benefit and salary.

    Cons

No room to growth. Most people stay on the job for life and since no incentives to move up, staff become very good at what they do but that is the only thing they can do.

    Advice to Management

Company needs to transform and make working fun.

    Pros

This company is very numbers focused. If you like money this place is where you want to be... but what you get paid is nothing compared to the mountain of other issues that go on at H1.

    Cons

The biggest issue is senior management. I'm unsure of the training these people receive - but micromanagement and driving people by fear is not a great way to promote incentive and motivation. A boss is a leader, not a prison guard. The role of a leader is to be firm in a positive manner and build moral, not do the opposite.

Having the right manager can make all the difference at this company. If you have a bad manager - your going to have a bad time. Which brings me to the buddy system. Being a 'buddy' gives you that extra step into the company. Raw experience will never be an asset at this company because of oldschool thinking.

Unions are another issue. Which add on layers of more issues: politics, power struggle, and this notion that they will protect every employee.

I could probably write an essay on this. So how about those Hydro bills?

I worked at Hydro One full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

I worked at Hydro One Brampton. Pros are

    - Great hours from 9 to 5 with 1 hour lunch and 2 breaks
    - Excellent in-house cafeteria that served breakfast and lunch
-Different places around the building where one can get away and relax on breaks and lunches
    - Competitive pay
    - In-house radio station to break out of the doldrums

    Cons

    - Not much room to advance
    - Quite a few people were quite haughty or snobby but they were also plesant and friendly colleagues as well
    - Hydro One is up for sale so there is uncertainty on which employees will be kept, quite a few people on contract
    - Work culture where longer term employees will transfer the work that they do not want to do unto shorter term employees
    - Work load can be high especially in admin. roles

    Advice to Management

    Reverse the cons

I worked at Hydro One (More than a year)

    Pros

Company culture is probably one of the best in North America
    Job is very secure
Very easy path to get promotions and pay rise
They have a mentor-ship programs which allows all New Grad Engineers to get assigned mentors which really helps

    Cons

A lot of last minute work that happens in the Distribution network which could get really stressful at times
A bit old school regarding work discipline, for example, management disapproval for starting work later than 8 AM.
There is a lot of politics within the company, especially regarding new hiring of university/college graduates which could be annoying for some people.

    Advice to Management

    Keep up the good work!!
