Pros

Great experience and resume booster. Not a fun job, but definitely a spot that will enhance who you are. Perfect spot for a college student. Teaches you strong process management skills. Gives you the skills to be a very strong candidate for other companies. Great benefits. The pay is decent for a college student. Pay for part of college. Decent paid time off. The value UPS can have for someone is unreal. It just depends on your situation. I think this is a very good company to work for if you're in college. I don't think it's the greatest long term career opportunity though.

Cons

Not a great company to work for as a college grad. They require a degree for advancement, but don't value your degree. The company doesn't welcome personal ambition. You advance on companies terms. They choose the direction you go. Its a great opportunity for someone that isn't a risk taker. UPS creates an environment that makes employees believe they are the only opportunity out there. Also imply their pay is better than any other company, which isn't always true. Only promotes within. The management is kind of blinded by the outside world. This I due to no one ever worked for another company. There is a ton to learn from ups' processes, but they don't always welcome innovation. Working in small package operations is a very specific field of work. The only US competitors are FedEX and USPS. This can hurt your chances to switch markets down the road. UPS doesn't normally allow you to switch between their companies, such as UPS Freight. Pay raises are really bad. Really really bad. They are based on a qpr. If you hit your numbers your manager's review can cancel out your numbers, which results in a poor raise. If you don't hit your numbers you get a poor raise. You hardly hear about big time raises. Your pay slow increases over the 30 year tenure they expect you to be there. This isn't a bad company giving my negative reviews. It's more based on working while in college verses after graduating. I'm very lucky to have worked at ups. It helped me be very successful at my new company. No time off from thanksgiving through the New Year.

Pros

Easiest job Ill ever have for sure. They payed for my college which is nice. Working nights sucks but the actual work is easy.

Cons

Night shift sucks. Get used to it eventually but its not for everyone. Also a lot of people there that dont have any real life goals to do better than make $25 hr part time.

Pros

The pay is excellent .health care is 100 % paid with 100 %coverage...with exception to eye and dental which is about 70%..coverage...pension is outstanding..full package with wages and benefits is worth 130,000 yearly..without a college education I am grateful for the standard of living UPS HAS AFFORDED ME AND MY FAMILY!...and with 27 years of service I now get 6 weeks vacation with 8 sick days..and 9 paid holidays...we work hard like many people in the work force but we are well compensated!.

Cons

The only con is while your children are young you give up a lot of family time..I never got to watch my kids play sports and missed a lot of their growing years...the job can be hard on your home life but if you can make it through those years you and your family will enjoy the financial freedom that UPS provides...and now I look forward to a prosperous retirement!...so hang in there all you young drivers...
