- The supervisors will be breathing down your neck, constantly informing you of the minimum piece rate that’s supposed to be achieved and what can be improved to work more effectively. Here lies the conflict of interest: we don’t get paid by the rate; we get paid by the hour. So if we work at an above-average rate, we will NOT be compensated more for it. The more “effectively” we work, the less we get paid because we'll finish the task and be sent home early. Other than getting to keep our jobs (there are many other jobs that pay just as well, if not better, in the area), there is virtually no incentive to strive to be the best at your job. - The work schedule varies from day to day, week to week. So you have no clue how many hours you're actually going to get. - The time clocks where you punch in are located in each individual department instead of at the front door. If you have a long walk to your department, they're effectively just stealing more of your time. - As far as I am aware, there isn’t a way to review your punch times for the day or week at the time clock, so there isn’t a way to accurately track your hours in the system before each pay period. I constantly hear of people having their paychecks screwed up. - There isn’t an in-house HR person to talk to; everything is done online. If you have an inquiry or there’s something important you need handled as soon as possible, good luck with that. All the online HR does is give you the runaround or give you a number to call where you’ll talk to someone overseas that you can barely comprehend and don’t feel very comfortable giving any confidential information to. - You only get one 10-minute break; in actuality, it's more like a 5-minute break because the time starts when you walk away from your station, and the walk to a bathroom or seating area may take a couple of minutes. - You are frequently asked if you want to go home or leave early due to lack of work, overstaffing, etc. If you deny going home, there’s a good chance you’re going to get passed around in your department or dragged to another department and made to do the work of multiple people without a pay increase.

Being outside, driving is a plus. Never had to go to the gym.

Cons

Forced overtime. Holidays working. High stress environment.

Pros

The pay is excellent .health care is 100 % paid with 100 %coverage...with exception to eye and dental which is about 70%..coverage...pension is outstanding..full package with wages and benefits is worth 130,000 yearly..without a college education I am grateful for the standard of living UPS HAS AFFORDED ME AND MY FAMILY!...and with 27 years of service I now get 6 weeks vacation with 8 sick days..and 9 paid holidays...we work hard like many people in the work force but we are well compensated!.

Cons

The only con is while your children are young you give up a lot of family time..I never got to watch my kids play sports and missed a lot of their growing years...the job can be hard on your home life but if you can make it through those years you and your family will enjoy the financial freedom that UPS provides...and now I look forward to a prosperous retirement!...so hang in there all you young drivers...
