Pros

The team of technical delivery engineers make a conscious effort to integrate you into the company but are limited by the working environment. Bathroom music is elite, props the whoever picks the music.

Cons

Objective cons: Despite being a small company, there is an obvious disconnect in the office between engineers, project managers, HR and the CTO. The technical engineers are treated very poorly. Every break is scrutinised, every task timed (using Toggl Track time tracking software) and no appreciation, understanding or respect is shown for the actual work completed. My manager didn’t understand what the engineers are tasked to do for migrations. As a result, unrealistic targets for tasks are set with requests for constant updates to justify their own position. However, unsure if this was from above. Very high levels of micromanagement. Managers try to catch you out instead of supporting you. Going to the toilet or taking a screen break is seen as stealing from the company. The CTO makes up processes on the spot depending on his mood and seems to dislike his staff based on his interactions with them. Zero company benefits or sick leave, the bonus is also imaginary. Mandatory training is a good concept but there is zero support for it and it’s used as a means of passing probation. The training to be taken is not discussed with you as outlined in the interview. Requests for support to my manager for things like setting up the exam and specifics processes regarding training are met with a shrug. Wages have not been paid 3 months after leaving. Communication was blocked on HR’s end after using an alternate email for contact as my original emails were blocked to resolve payment. This is illegal and was likely intentional. If approached by a recruiter, they will possibly try to reduce your base wage, claiming wages are embedded within the mandatory training, That is not the case, They receive compensation based on getting you into the business and not time served, hence the high turnover. Opinion based cons: Without a doubt the worst place I've ever been worked or even been involved with. Shame I can't give zero stars. The one star reviews are real accounts of people who want to succeed being placed in a terrible/hostile environment so you’ve been warned. Poor leadership, controlling policies and a lack of empathy and ethics towards staff. Even if you are unemployed, avoid at all costs.

Pros

The team dynamic and relationship. There is always banter (where permitted) and the middle management (project managers) are very helpful and understanding.

Cons

Yes, the red flags you've noticed - especially during the third stage interview with the CTO are real. Trust your gut and instincts. Don’t fall into the same trap many of us did, as reflected in the large number of one star reviews. Those reviews are not exaggerated - they’re honest accounts of real experiences. Where to begin? Let’s start with the promises of "training and development" and large "bonuses". These are largely made-up. Training consists of access to a few online portals and an unreasonable expectation to complete multiple certifications within a short timeframe - while also traveling frequently and handling laborious tasks in the office. You can self-study without subjecting yourself to this company’s demands. Don’t expect empathy, support, or basic common sense. I was once told to study while flying at 4 am to a client site - because apparently, "what else should you be doing?" Sleep, maybe? Travel is always booked with cost, not comfort, in mind - cheap hotels, inconvenient flights - which leads to exhaustion and frustration. You’re expected to work immediately upon arrival, regardless of jet lag or a lack of sleep. What is even worse is you'll often have to cover expenses like breakfast and taxis out-of-pocket because the company card hasn’t been topped up - due to pure negligence. Reimbursements are late, and salary payments can be delayed too. On one occasion, I had to borrow money just to cover my mortgage because I wasn’t paid on time. The level of micromanagement is ridiculous. I was once questioned for leaving the office for 10/12 minutes - to use the bathroom and make a cup of tea. The CTO creates a toxic environment with crude, inappropriate "jokes" and routinely ignores your experience in favor of his rigid, often inefficient way of doing things. Tasks are set up for failure, especially at client sites, because he refuses to allocate sufficient staff or resources - simply to save money. This often results in embarrassing, stressful situations for both employees and clients. Overtime is paid at your standard hourly rate, and once you factor in personal spending on travel (yes, including water and snacks), it barely amounts to anything. There’s no sick pay either - so be prepared to take a financial hit if you’re ill or face an emergency. Policies and contracts are frequently updated - always to benefit the CTO, never the staff. The office atmosphere is unstable and tense. It can shift drastically without warning. During my time at Beyond, the CTO personally fired at least five employees, and another three left within their first two weeks after realising what they’d walked into. Firings happen for the most minor reasons, and the shockwaves are felt throughout the team. I strongly urge you - do not join this company. You’ll quickly regret it and find yourself scrambling for a way out.

Pros

Wednesday Breakfast, The team there have a great dynamic, well what's left of the team.

Cons

Working environment completely ruined by one man with a fragile ego who bullies and belittles staff whilst treating them as disposable. On average staff only last a few days due to his toxic behaviour. Has been overheard giving bad references to former staff members over the phone and shouting at staff in the office. There is no sick pay and made up rules around when you can use your annual leave entitlement. Staff suffer at the hands of the CTO's overpromising to clients of unrealistic deadlines and poor planning with pressure put on staff to make up the shortfall having to work weekends and evenings. Working overtime is only paid normal hourly rates, That's when it is paid as the CTO putting the blame on staff for "not being able to get the job done within working hours" in an effort to not pay staff overtime Employees are given no consideration when told to travel to client sites, the cheapest travel options are booked for staff with flights/trains being booked on weekends during early hours and then staff have to linger around a subpar hotels, the company only offers to pay for dinner whilst staff are away and a strict budget is imposed even on that. The CTO then obliviously flaunts his high end hotel stays and business class flights to his staff when travelling to client sites often having bragged about his business class lounge access whilst letting his employees pay for their own airport food and drinks. Work/Life balance is almost not existent with staff expected to work evenings and weekend, When staff are not working or travelling they are expected to do hours of training in what little free personal time they have left to such an extent that candidates with families/children are often rejected during the hiring process due to not being able to commit their entire life to the job.
