Local Engineering Ltd. is an Alberta based engineering services provider supporting a select group of recurring clients. Local’s unique approach is to develop a long-term relationship with our clients, becoming the “owner’s engineer” and prioritizing client needs. We have a wide-ranging and diverse client base to help stabilize our workload when some markets are in a downturn. The quickly growing Local Engineering team is small but nimble, with a one-of-a-kind collaborative team environment.

Job Summary

The Intermediate or Senior Electrical Engineer (P.Eng.) will provide electrical and instrumentation engineering support on a variety of projects/clients including modifications to existing facilities, conceptual design of improvement ideas, replacement of existing equipment and design and implementation of new capital projects. The pace of work is fast and changes from day to day, which requires an agile person who can manage and execute many activities simultaneously in a challenging environment. Education & Qualifications

• Graduate of a recognized university with a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering
• Registered as a P.Eng. with APEGA.
• Registered as a P. Eng in other provinces is considered an asset.
• Registered as a PE in the US is considered an asset.
• Familiarity with relevant electrical codes (CSA, IEEE, API, ANSI, CEC).
• Familiarity with development of single line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, electrical layouts, cable schedules, EHT isometrics and other key design documents.
• Ability to develop a complete engineering work package including construction scope of work, reports, engineering design drawings, instrument datasheets, and other deliverables as required.
• Experience with power system design software (ETAP, SKM, CYME).
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite programs used to create reports and documents.
• Site and field based industrial work experience is considered an asset.
• Experience with proposal development and engineering cost estimates.
• Experience working with and mentoring junior engineers and designers.
• Experience with smart plant instrumentation (SPI) is considered an asset.
• EPC project management or project engineering experience is considered an asset.
• Familiarity with CAD design software is considered an asset.

Responsibilities

• Execute electrical engineering activities within a multi-discipline scope of work that includes everything from conceptual design development through to detailed design, procurement support, construction support and commissioning.
• Participate in multi-discipline projects, including developing deliverables from concept through calculations and detailed design, and final / stamped issue.
• Remain current with developing technologies in electrical engineering, industrial control systems and instrumentation technologies.
• Engage directly with clients to understand their requirements and expectations and deliver top quality solutions.
• Perform detailed reviews of project electrical design specifications, calculations, design drawings and standard detail drawings.
• Perform calculations including equipment sizing, load studies, lighting levels, hazardous area classifications, cable sizing and voltage drop.
• Develop Engineering Work Packages including but not limited to single line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, electrical layouts, control panel layouts, instrument layouts, installation details, hazardous area layouts, and written construction work steps.
• Understand and complete work within established project budgets and schedule ensuring work is completed according to the defined contractual scope and execution strategy.
• Provide additional support as needed including learning the work requirements of other disciplines (process, mechanical, structural) in order to deliver well-rounded solutions to clients.
• Identify and liaise with potential new clients to support the growth of the company.
• Collaborate with internal and external senior engineers and designers for support and development on more challenging tasks.
• Demonstrate commitment to safety and quality
• Travel to the field for project scoping, verification, construction support and meeting with clients as needed.
• Provide mentorship and technical guidance to more junior team members.

Position Conditions

• Hours of work per week may vary depending on available work and skillset of individual, but the intention is that this is a full-time position.
• Salary is commensurate with industry salary scale.
• Job is typically performed in an office environment.
• Site travel may be required depending on the project.
