      3D Modeler Interview

      Feb 28, 2012
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Toronto, ON
      Declined offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Ubisoft (Toronto, ON) in Jan 2012

      Interview

Fantastic environment. There are some really energetic people working there. The interview process took wayyyyy too long and was unprofessional in my opinion. The recruiter contacted me initially and then asked if I could go in for a group interview. After the interview I was asked to do an art test in a week. The art test consisted of a verbal description and little technical specifics. After my art test was received, the company called me a day later to say that they were pleased with the art test, but said that there were some 'technical flaws'. I'm a senior in the games industry and I have 5 years of experience. Suffice to say I wouldn't be able to survive 5 years with flawed work in this business. Ultimately they tried to use those 'flaws' as leverage to offer me a low and offensive salary. The recruiter contacted me 1 month after the group interview, I immediately declined the offer. Artists take note: Chances are you went to a speciality school to hone your skills. You have a very special skill set that not everyone can do. DO NOT accept an offer that does not reflect your abilities or time. It's one thing if you think you can live on a poor salary...but you're perpetuating low salaries as the norm for a very specific skill that's in demand and highly transferable.

      Mar 14, 2020
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Montreal, QC
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied in-person. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at Ubisoft (Montreal, QC) in Dec 2019

      Interview

The process went on for 3 months, the recruiting team was disappearing for long periods of time to come back later and apologize every time. After the interview they were super positive and excited about having me on board. After 3 months (3 months!) they rejected my application due to VISA "potential" issues. Lame excuse. (I was hired immediately after by another big studio in the same city). The interview: they looked bored by their life and with little experience. I wasn't given a studio tour, just sat down in a sad room at the main entrance. Didn't expect such treatment by a big studio such as Ubi. Now I know... An odd experience, lack of respect.
