I was referred both interview. I received an invitation via email for a phone interview within one day of applying. Interview 1: The recruiter called me 15 minutes late. I had to double check my email for instructions because I was second guessing myself. I thought perhaps there was a link I missed or was I supposed to call them? When the recruiter called, I could immediately tell he was detracted :( He even asked me to wait a moment because he was just now printing out my resume. I'll include his questions below. When it was my turn to ask questions, he either read things off verbatim from the job posting or has a yes/no answer. The interview ended and I felt like I had so much more to say. He didn't ask many questions and I felt it would be unnatural for me to randomly add my experiences without him prompting. I felt he was distracted and uninterested in me. The interview lasted 9 minutes. I received a rejection email the next morning. Scenario 2: Recruiter called 3 minutes late. She was extremely personable and chatty. She asked great, specific questions. The type of questions she asked me made me feel she was actually interested and not just checking a question off a list. She did most of the talking, but I felt like I got to say the majority of what I needed to. We spoke of salary (a little less than what I needed) and she asked if I could make it work. Next, she outlined what the next steps would be. I sent a customized thank you email within hours. I gave it two weeks and did not hear anything back. I sent a second follow up at the two week mark. It's been six weeks without a call or email. It's safe to say I've been ghosted. My feedback: -The first phone screen should focus on if the candidate is the right fit. Talk about experience and relevant job skills etc. Don't waste time talking about all the perks your company offers. Candidates who do their research already know that. Seems like jumping the gun or a waste of time at this point in the interview process. -Recruiters could be more transparent (not just with Smartsheet but all together). I feel they often hype you up in the interview and sound extremely interested in you giving you false hope. It is possible for a recruiter to be personable without leading the candidate on.... Recruiters, please stay neutral and refrain from saying things like "you're perfect for...." -Please have the value the candidates time by either rejecting or extending an offer in a timely manner. We often spends hours preparing for interviews while it seems more recruiters simply read off a list. The LEAST you can do is send a generic email with your decision.

Overall process was smooth. Transparent next steps and outside the normal scope of generic interview questions. Had resources available each step of the way, managers were genuinely interested in what I had to say.
