      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at GEICO (Chevy Chase, MD) in Oct 2020

      Interview

I found the job on GEICO's website and submitted my application online. The next day I was asked to fill out a questionnaire they have for the general Emerging Leaders Program. After I sent that in I was given an interview the next week. It was with a senior HR person who was very nice. The interview consisted of fairly basic behavior questions with an emphasis on leadership experience. She also asked about my familiarity with a bunch of different programming languages, operating systems, and project management techniques. A few days later I was told I'd moved on. The next interview was with two Emerging Leaders Program managers. This was more laid back and conversation-like. They want to get to know your personality. There were still normal questions, but it was not the whole focus. The next week I was told I would be having a final interview with an IT Director at the company. They had told me beforehand that I wouldn't need to code on the fly or anything like that, but the interview really wasn't technical in nature at all. Basically more leadership-based behavioral questions and scenarios. I interviewed during the coronavirus pandemic, so all of my interviews were video calls. The first person I interviewed with reached out after the weekend and offered me the position. Everyone I spoke to was very nice and responsive. Definitely take the time to think of thoughtful and intriguing questions to ask during the interview, they're expecting them and it's a great time to learn more about the company than what you can see on their website. Make sure to emphasize any leadership roles you have taken at previous jobs, school groups, or even class projects. It doesn't need to be something big and flashy, just something that showcases how you can step up and take charge and like the challenge.
