Management Development Program, Customer Service Interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at GEICO (Fredericksburg, VA)

      Interview

Phone Interview; standard questions regarding leadership, what you look for from a company, and what you know about Geico. Then you come to their headquarters and have to take a ridiculous number of tests. Typing, listening and computer skills, role plays depending on what area of the company you want to go into (claims, customer service, sales). Then if you pass all these, you have a brief interview with the HR director and some guy in jeans who seemed like he had no idea why he was even in the room... Simple questions, like why insurance? what can you tell me about customer service? what can you tell me about this position you are applying for? Then if they like you, you get to job shadow someone in the department that you applied for. I got the pleasure of sitting in their call center and listening to calls coming into their commercial insurance customer service department. It made me dread going any further in this process....I'd rather have someone crush my skull with stones then work in a call center. Then I had a panel interview with management. I met with three individuals who you could tell are not used to the interview process. The impression that I got from the interview was that they are a "rule with an iron fist" type of company. Basically, you mess up-fix it right now or go home. They were all sort of awkward but arrogant. After the interview, you sit in a room next door as they talk about you for several minutes. Then one comes in and escorts you downstairs, making awkward conversation about the weather and how they'll contact you in 24-48 hours with their decision. (Even though it took over a week to get back to me). Basically, I feel that it was an insane process for a measly $43,000 a year. If they do like you, then you have to get a thorough background check, credit check, drug test, and possibly even a prostate exam before getting the offer. Overall, I would NOT recommend trying to work for this company. My thoughts on this company have definitely changed after this experience, in a very negative way.

      Nothing unexpected. Pretty standard questions.
