Another disappointing, unprofessional experience with GEICO. I had previously applied to the program at a different location. After being told I would hear back with the next stages, I heard nothing for over 6 months. I decided to try the application process again at the location near me instead. Big mistake. I applied online and heard back within 2 days requesting that I send my resume and transcripts. I immediately did so and heard nothing back for 2 weeks. Then I received another two emails, but instead of discussing the next step in the process, it was the same automated email requesting my resume and transcripts yet again. For the second time I sent in my information. I then received information to set up a phone interview.
The phone interview started off as expected with apologies being made regarding my previous experience and the recruiter saying she would check into what happened. I had made it to the point of attending testing the last time I applied and my information was indeed sent to the correct individual. The phone interview continued with very little having to do with my resume or qualifications. I was asked where else I had applied to. I mentioned a few and said "among others," but was questioned endlessly for more specific details. All questions were leadership based, which was to be expected. However, all of my responses never seemed to be good enough or the right answer. As this is an ENTRY LEVEL PROGRAM, you would think that questions wouldn't be so critical. I tried to relate my experiences both professionally and academically as best I could. Questions such as "What do you enjoy about being a leader?," "Talk about a time when you had to step into a leadership role." The recruiter continuously cut me off when I was trying to describe the situation. "I don't understand what you mean," "and how is that leadership related?", "no, I told you to be specific." Very rude and condescending. After about 50 minutes, the interview was complete. The recruiter said she would contact me within the next few days regarding next steps, and at the very least to tell me what happened with my previous application. A week passed by with no response. I received a voicemail soon thereafter saying that she was "waiting for more information." That was 2 weeks ago and I have heard nothing since.
GEICO is easily the least professional experience I have had with applying for jobs. This program is designed to train employees to succeed and excel. The qualifications are entry level based, yet you are belittled for lacking experience in leadership. Both recruiters I have experienced are robotic and condescending. Weeks and months go by without a response. It would at least be common courtesy to make a decision instead of leaving you in limbo with a response. If I were to be offered the position tomorrow I would decline.
