I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at DoorDash (Palo Alto, CA) in Mar 2015
Interview
Quick, straight forward but ultimately unprofessional and surprisingly rude. Doordash has a lot of potential and I'm sure some great people work there and as a customer I really like the service. However, I ultimately left the process feeling that what started as a great experience ended with a feeling that the company is at an immature point and has a lot to learn as they grow. Everyone is initially really friendly but the fact they don't even bother to call or personally email you after multiple phone calls and a lengthy onsite interviews makes me question a lot of what was positive about the experience.
I've hired people before and I appreciate that a third party generic email is a great way to respond to large groups of applicants to update them. However I think it is good practice to send a quick personal email or call anyone who has spent significant time in the interview process. It is good manners and it is a graceful way to finish the process even if things don't work out. I still think Doordash is an exciting company and I do wish them the best though I hope they improve their practices as at the end of the day a lot of the people who interview will also be current or potential customers and advocates of the service, successful or not. An interview experience that doesn't end with an offer can still end maintaining an overall positive experience. I think a company can really show their values and integrity through the entire interview process.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Initial 30 minute phone call was all fairly standard introduction type questions. Second phone call was an hour of hypothetical emails/calls to answer in real time. Third, two hour onsite was a speed typing test, practical experience using the tools and two one on ones with again fairly standard interview questions about your experience and background.
Thank you for your feedback. We are constantly improving our interview process and will use your insights to improve. If you have any further feedback please email recruiting@doordash.com.
