I applied online. The process took 2+ months. I interviewed at Amazon (San Diego, CA) in Oct 2017
Interview
When I got there, there were people outside the building waiting for what was to be a "hiring event", very much an orientation to the company. We were called inside into a big square room where we took seats surrounding a big screen projector, but not before the person in charge checked us in with our IDs.
Victor, the person in charge, spent the majority of the time talking to us and using the screen projector to tell and show us what we could expect from the company, and what the company expected from each of us. Near the end of the presentation, he had us take mouth swab drug tests. We had to keep it in our mouth between the cheek and gums for ten minutes. Once time was up, he instructed us on how to put the mouth swab into a closing tube and then package it into a plastic bag along with the appropriately signed paperwork of consent to be drug tested.
The role of the Prime Now Associate is basically making sure shipments are packaged and organized well, and to get them on that delivery belt. Expect a lot of repetition, standing the whole time. If you're disabled in some capacity, and Amazon has their own "checklist" of qualifications for this, you're encouraged to talk to Accommodations.
That was pretty much it. There was time for questions, which Victor was happy to answer. You can wear what you want as long as it's not potentially offensive, goes for piercings and tattoos too. The company is huge on flexibility and availability. Expect to only work part-time, they say you can create your own schedule after 2 weeks. Along with the drug test, they do a background check, which you can get the results of as long as you ask for them upon signing the online form. The building was hard to find via public transit, so do your homework ahead of time.
They have three different warehouse locations as of right now. One off 2727 Kurtz Street, one off 3358 Governor Drive, and another off 3205 Lemon Grove Ave. They are supposed to be opening one up in National City soon
I applied online. I interviewed at Amazon (Irvine, CA) in Jul 2017
Interview
I entered the Irvine facility, showed my 2 forms of ID, and sat in a small conference room with a projector to wait. On the table in front of me was a form for a drug screening and a cheek swab. The first thing they said was that they're not hiring for the Irvine facility where I applied, and not even at an Amazon location, but at a Sprouts Farmers Market in Huntington Beach. Felt like a total bait and switch scam so I left.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Are you comfortable working at a Sprouts in Huntington Beach instead of for the job you applied for in Irvine?
I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Amazon (San Antonio, TX)
Interview
No interview, just got email I was hired. Went to orientation, got swabbed tested and told further communication would happen by email. Got results back from swab, got email to go turn in I9 documents, went to office to get copy done. Has taken over a month, have gotten courtesy emails apologizing for the delay. However, still very slow onbiarding process.
