👻💀Spooky season is upon us! 🎃🕸 Meet two associates who, if you're a Halloween fan, have the most interesting jobs! Buyer Alexis White (pictured left, below, with her daughter) had the enviable task of purchasing all of this year's Halloween products that you'll find in-store at Walmart Canada. Our Senior Merchant, Seasonal Confectionary Ryan Harper plans, buys and merchandises our treats assortment for all seasonal holidays - including, yes, Halloween. 🍬🍭🍫 While retail businesses across the country scaled back on their buy in 2020, Halloween 2021 is already shaping up to be one of Walmart’s biggest yet! Say hello to John Vagt, our Group Product Manager for eCommerce Technology. He’s been with Walmart Canada for four years. John and his team create great digital relationships with our customers. His team connects our customers to info about orders via emails, text messages and chat bots, and works with our marketing business to connect customers to brands they love through machine learning and big data. John is particularly proud of a targeted advertising platform his team launched earlier this year on for our Walmart Connect Canada media organization. The goal was to personalize ads to show our customers relevant products and brands. John says it took his team a few tries, but they improved each time and persevered for our customers! “We’re continuously learning and innovating across all our disciplines – product, user experience, engineering, program management, and our business partners. It’s precisely that journey of close cross-team collaboration that brings me joy in what I do every day!” John says. Thank you, John, for everything you do!

Joshua Oshkabewisens, Operations Manager at our Sudbury North Supercentre, says he wears orange to raise awareness and to create a better future for his two-year-old daughter. “It really stung, having a young child myself,” Joshua (pictured below) says of the recent confirmation of unmarked graves containing the remains of Indigenous children earlier this year. “The thought of my child being taken away from me, as a parent, just hit home for me.” Joshua and Yullinda Ponicappo, our Produce Department Manager in Yorkton, Sask., shared with us what Orange Shirt Day means to them and how the legacy of residential schools impacts their lives. Read the piece here: https://lnkd.in/gUtfmkWr Walmart Canada stands with Indigenous peoples. On Sept. 30, our associates will join Joshua and Yullinda in wearing orange shirts created in partnership with the Orange Shirt Society. For each of these orange shirts sold, 100% of the profits will go to the Orange Shirt Society to support the important work they do in Indigenous communities across Canada. This year’s Canadian Red Cross-Walmart Canada campaign was a record-breaker! The Canadian Red Cross says that it was their best partner point-of-sale campaign - EVER! (i.e., when donations are made by customers at a cash register). Together, we raised more than $5 million to support the Red Cross’ disaster relief and preparedness efforts – a new record! The total includes $4.2 million from customer donations and employee initiatives, in addition to $820,000 through Walmart corporate match dollars. We’re amazed by the ongoing generosity and support from our associates and our customers. A special shout-out to our Hinton, AB store (pictured below) - one of this year’s top fundraisers for Red Cross! Thank you for everything you do to support your community! The Canadian Red Cross has been responding to a busy wildfire season in Canada, and this funding will help the organization support Canadians during times it's most needed. In addition, in response to the British Columbia wildfires, our B.C. stores are still raising funds for community relief.
