Big news: Walmart Canada is eliminating single-use plastic shopping bags! That’s nearly three-quarters-of-a-billion plastic shopping bags each year - enough bags to circle the earth nearly 10 times! The changes apply to in-store purchases along with online grocery pickup and delivery orders. The phased approach will see all of Walmart’s more than 400 Canadian locations make the change by Earth Day 2022. This is the latest step on our journey to becoming a regenerative company, and follows a 10-store pilot that began in August 2021. A special thanks to associates from across the business including the teams in our pilot stores, sustainability, marketing, eCommerce and operations team who are helping us prepare to go bagless.

Remembrance Day is a time for Canadians to remember and pay tribute to the sacrifices made by our veterans and all those who fought for our freedom. In this personal story, Ed Wirun, Walmart Canada’s Market Leader for southern Alberta, shares what Remembrance Day means to him. Ed’s grandfather enlisted in the Canadian military at the start the Second World War when he was just 17 and fought from 1939 to 1945. “My grandfather never wanted anyone to feel sorry for him,” Ed writes. “Until the day he died, he was extremely proud of what he did for his country.” His grandfather’s military service inspired Ed to join the military himself a week after his 17th birthday – the same age as his grandfather. Click here to read his story: https://lnkd.in/g4654bR7 Thank you to all our veterans for your service and your sacrifice. Lest we forget.
