For the first time in Canada, Walmart’s Marketplace sellers can now offer our 2-day shipping or store pickup via Walmart Fulfillment Services! This is part of our ongoing strategy to offer customers better and faster service. Here’s what the launch of Walmart Fulfillment Services means for Marketplace sellers and customers: 📦 Typically, Marketplace sellers fulfil and ship their own orders. With WFS, Walmart handles all storage and logistics for participating sellers: sellers send their items to us where they are stored, picked, packed, and sent to customers. 📦 This means our customers can receive their Marketplace orders significantly faster. 📦 Plus, customers can also return Marketplace items in-store, following our standard return policy – this is true for all Marketplace orders! (Some restrictions apply).
Our stores are getting an AI-assist to help keep shelves stocked and improve the customer and associate experience! A computer vision AI solution from Focal Systems is rolling out to all stores across Canada. This exciting new tech uses cameras, pointed directly at shelves, to detect when a product is out-of-stock or running low. When a product is out of stock, the tech triggers a notification that is sent to an associate who will then re-stock the shelf. This means fuller shelves for our customers! We’ve prevented nearly 200 million single-use plastic shopping bags from circulation since January 2022 – and we’re not stopping there. Starting today, we’re testing a circular economy solution for reusable bags in our Guelph stores! In Guelph, customers will see GOATOTE kiosks where they’ll be able to check out clean, reusable bags for a fee, use them for a month, and bring them back to be cleaned, sanitized, and put back into circulation. This program offers our customers more choice in how they carry out their purchases and gives us an opportunity to test and learn alongside our associates and customers. We’re the first major Canadian retailer to offer GOATOTE’s reusable bag solution. We’re pleased to announce we’ve awarded $150,000 in bursaries through the 2022 Walmart Canada Associate Scholarship Program! 🎉📚 🎒 This annual program awards $2,000 to outstanding Walmart associates or their dependents to go towards their first year of post-secondary education. Recipients were chosen based on academic achievement, extracurricular activities, community involvement, and financial need. This year, we’re awarding scholarships to 75 students! One of our 2022 winners is Adrienne MacGowan, an Omni Fulfillment Associate in Mount Pearl, N.L. who plans to specialize in Process Engineering at Memorial University. “The scholarship program is fantastic! It gives students with ordinary lives an opportunity to achieve something extraordinary,” says Adrienne. “I want to start my own organization that strives to research ways to avoid crop loss due to barren land and the effects of climate change.” Congratulations to all our 2022 Walmart Canada Associate Scholarship winners!
Walmart Canada Launches First-of-its-Kind 60-Foot Multi-Temperature Refrigerated Trailer for Store Deliveries [Interview]
We’re beefing up our commitment to sustainable beef sourcing and introducing new recyclable packaging! As our customers embrace the last few weeks of grilling season, they can feel even better about the beef they’re buying from Walmart Canada. We’ve committed to purchasing an additional 1 million pounds of beef sourced from certified sustainable farms and ranches, according to standards set by the Canadian Roundtable for Sustainable Beef (CRSB). That’s in addition to the 1.5 million pounds previously announced in October 2021 - a grand total of more than 2.5 million pounds! In addition, trays for Walmart Canada's ground beef are now 100% recyclable. This means over 12 million trays can avoid landfills each year! ♻ Click here to read more about this latest step on our journey to become a regenerative company: https://lnkd.in/g_3PWPGi #walmart #walmartcanada #thisisthatplace

Now this is cool: we’ve added a 60-foot multi-temperature refrigerated trailer to our fleet – the first of its kind for Walmart in North America! The custom-built refrigerated trailer allows us to ship more freight to stores in a single trip, including products that need to be at different temperatures. This results in more efficiency in our supply chain and less C02 emissions! And, if you look behind the wheel as it goes between our distribution centre in Mississauga and our stores in Woodstock and Windsor, you’ll probably see Malkeet or Christopher – two of our associates tasked with pulling this brand new trailer.
We’re stepping up to support displaced Ukrainians in Canada – and our associates are, too. We’ve donating more than $250,000 to the Canadian Red Cross, on top of the more than $20,000 raised by our associates. We’re also donating tens of thousands of apparel and footwear units to The Salvation Army Thrift Store, which will help assist Ukrainian newcomers and other community members in need. And we’re offering jobs to displaced Ukrainians in Canada. Some of our associates are stepping up in other ways. Suzanne Knight, VP of Transformation Services, offered a Ukrainian family a free place to stay in her Toronto home after the country became a warzone. Months later, the family is back on its feet thanks to help from Suzanne and Walmart Canada. “In times of unthinkable hardship, we can provide hope and support, working together to create a foundation for displaced people beginning their new lives in Canada,” Suzanne writes.
