Every year associates from across Canada gather in Toronto for our annual Year Beginning Meeting (YBM). It’s an opportunity for us to celebrate last year’s highlights as we look forward to what’s to come! At each YBM, we present outstanding associates with awards celebrating their achievements from the past year. We’ll be spotlighting some of our winners here in the coming weeks. First up: Store Manager Maude St Jean and store 3002 in Comeau, QC, winners of our 2022 Community Giving Award! This award recognizes stores that have made a positive impact in the communities they operate, including their performance in fundraising campaigns. Store 3002 surpassed its fundraising goals for all four of our national charity partners this year! Walmart Canada’s four charity partners are Breakfast Club of Canada, Canadian Red Cross, Food Banks Canada and Children’s Miracle Network. A huge thank you to Maude and all associates at store 3002 for your inspirational and outstanding support of your community!
Happy birthday to…us! We turn 29 today! 🎂 🥳 Walmart launched in Canada in 1994, with 122 stores across the country. We’ve expanded just a little since then! We now have more than 400 stores across Canada and employ more than 100,000 associates, making us one of the country’s biggest employers. More than 3 million customers choose to shop with us in-store and online, every day. We now work with close to 2,000 local suppliers across Canada, helping to support and grow Canadian businesses. We also support the communities in which we operate, raising and donating over $650 million to Canadian charities since 1994. Click below to read more about Walmart's history in Canada.
We’re thrilled to share we’ve been named one of Canada's Best Diversity Employers for the second year in a row! The award is presented to employers across Canada that have exceptional workplace diversity and inclusiveness programs. We recognize the diversity within Canada and are committed to addressing systemic barriers to equity and inclusion in all their forms. Thank you to all our associates who work hard to make sure Walmart Canada is a place for everyone!
We were honoured to present the Kanata Food Cupboard with a $30,000 grant to support the vital work it does in the community! The Kanata Food Cupboard is a non-profit charitable organization providing food assistance to individuals and families in need in Kanata, ON. This grant is part of Walmart Canada's regional and national grant program, which helps us make a bigger impact and deliver on our mission of supporting Canadian families in need. Thank you to Ottawa City Councillors Cathy Curry and Councillor Allan Hubley and Kanata-Carleton MP Jenna Sudds for joining us to celebrate the Kanata Food Cupboard! And thank you to all our associates at our Kanata North store for helping us to put on a great event!
