I have been working at Zenefits full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - Jay is an incredibly transparent CEO, which is important to me in a leader. His standing desk is central and makes him very accessible; anyone can talk to him about the company or ask questions.
    - The vibe is incredibly progressive, inclusive, and makes coming to work really fun. We have meaningful discussions about hot topics to ensure we're ourselves actively improving our internal people management.
    - Learning and growth fostered and encouraged. I've moved into many different roles at Zenefits based on my interests, and have had unlimited personal and professional growth opportunities.

I've been here for a long time and have seen management and the business change. I can say 100% these changes have been for the better and I LOVE working here now.

    Cons

I would have said a month ago that it's difficult to keep up with the new faces as we hire new employees, but recently Zenefits started doing happy hours to welcome each new class and that's no longer an issue.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the transparency into company goals and obstacles!

I have been working at Zenefits full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Brilliant people
    Meaningful work
Crazy opportunity to make a difference
    Autonomy and teamwork

    Cons

Working to navigate out of some pretty PR rough waters/sins of the past
Have a tendency to try to boil the ocean

    Advice to Management

Gain and maintain focus on only as many projects as your teams can handle. remember that new initiatives need to be balanced with existing projects, maintenance and constant system improvements. In software there is rarely, if even a project that is one and done... maintenance, improvement and iteration never ends until its time to EOL.

I have been working at Zenefits (More than a year)

    Pros

    Free food. Standard compensation.

    Cons

Subpar quality of engineering leadership. 90% of remaining engineers are from exactly same background. Basically everyone who is capable of getting a job somewhere else, has already left or looking to leave.

I worked at Zenefits full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

To this date, because of the many late nights and camaraderie in the Operations Team, we had one of the tightest teams in my career. Catered dinner, open bar (before it got taken away), hard-working people. Long hours and being hourly meant tons of overtime. Learned a lot about what goes on (good and bad) in a start-up going through hyper-growth. Made some good contacts back from my day at big Z. Learned what NOT to do in a startup going forward.

    Cons

At the time, toxic politics, culture, and nepotism everywhere. Leadership in their own bubble not taking any action despite all the feedback. Department leaders with 0 experience and relevant skill sets were managing and failing miserably at it. The consequences trickled down and lead to a burned-out and underpaid Operations Team with little career progression. Exciting times between 2015-2016 but outright scary given the waves of lawsuits and layoffs that followed. The Operations team was clocking in 70-80 hour weeks in Q4 and had holiday blackout dates. Felt like a sweatshop disguised as a startup. The company is on its 3rd CEO and downsized almost 50% in 2017. Think hard about what that says about this organization if you're considering joining.

    Advice to Management

A lot of the issues above stemmed from a lack of values and trust, corrupt leadership, and lack of alignment and transparency through the levels of management. This was a project that could have made it big but didnt plan well while letting its employees take the hit. Maybe listen to your employees for once.
