Pros

Amazing concept for product. It shows well & they have a good roster of clients.

Cons

Do not be fooled by the false promises of Perch (as a prospective customer and as a prospective employee). The board brought in a new CEO to take charge of the company and while his intentions have been good, execution has been far from it. He mistreats employees and demonstrates sexist behavior. The product has issues from a technical perspective. It's nearly impossible to scale with clients (ask them about their largest deployment which the client decided to not renew). The price point for the product does not make sense and the business model has fundamental issues. Take a close look at employee turnover. Sales professionals leave after a few months in when they realize they were sold on false promises.

This one hurt. I admit that this is new to me - being labeled as I was below so, I am going to be as measured as I can in answering. I can’t believe that someone who worked in our office would say those things about me and not have ever, not once, gone to another employee or directly to me and said something about it. I am positive that people who have have worked with me over my career know that I would have addressed it immediately. No one else has mentioned one word to me about this prior to this anonymous review or since. If my open door office manner offended you in any way, I truly apologize. We strive for an environment where employees work closely and collaboratively together; we are constructive in our honest feedback and team mentality; this environment is not conducive for everyone and obviously wasn’t the right fit for you. Again, I apologize for any offense I might have given you. I am actually very proud of the environment we are building at Perch. We celebrate our diversity and inclusiveness as a key strength and categorically deny that we mistreat anyone. As for your advice on strengthening management, we have since brought on new VP level leadership in Sales, Engineering and starting January in Operations. Often startups have to build revenue and prove out product market fit before hiring senior leadership and we have done just that with new wins across a variety of categories. We launched a major platform update this summer reorienting our products on Linux for scalability and cost, which enabled us to reduce our prices by 50%. As a result, we have opened up broad categories across retail including on the low-end of grocery and CPG, which you can see from our recent announcements and press. Our top 3 largest deployments have all happened this quarter and as a result we have doubled our network QoQ. Your product concerns had some merit when you left over 9 months ago, but we have invested in and grown the business substantially since then. As a result our revenues are up over 350% YoY with more references and industry awards than ever. As we seek to constantly improve our organization and our culture, we eagerly encourage honest feedback and reflection.

Pressure to sell without demand

Pros

Your peers will be great to work with. The team is upbeat, friendly, and have joined the company because of the creative and promised growth opportunities. By and large you will have the opportunity to take personal responsibility for meaningful parts of the company

Cons

Unfortunately, the business has struggled to find a way to scale offerings. This has created long sales cycles, significant customer churn, quality control issues, and disguised technical debt. As a result, leadership has tried to compensate by pressuring the sales team to sell a product that lacks clear demand, leading to high employee dissatisfaction and turnover.

Thank you for your feedback. Perch over the last year has certainly moved to larger deals and thus longer sales cycles. We went from closing small individual events and standalone flagship stores to 6- and 7- figure deals and it's been a process for the organization to adapt, but it has been successful. The average deal size has more than doubled every 6 months this year and is up 5x YoY. We will more than triple bookings year over year, proving that there is in fact quite a bit of demand for our products. You can see that from our case studies, customer list and numerous awards but most of all that over half of our revenue is coming from existing clients expanding based on good results. We understand that not everyone was a fit for the new, larger go-to-market strategy and enterprise focus. Sales team professionals are measured on their efforts and outcomes and yes, unfortunately some have not met quota. That turnover is always unfortunate but well within industry norms. Revenue growth does drive reinvestment in the business and technology and we brought in a new VP of Sales this Summer to help realign and drive growth.

Pros

First, in terms of the product, it's exciting technology with some big hitting companies as current clients with a promising pipeline. Second, the work environment is fast paced and conducive to collaboration and smart risk taking. Third, strong leadership that thoughtfully and deliberately articulates a clear vision of future state. Last, the team is tight-knit, and the leaders are compassionate and really care about their people.

Cons

As a start-up, there is an expected level of aggressive deadlines and heavy work loads, however the culture is flexible, so long as the work gets done. The company is understaffed, so work roles and responsibilities can blur to fit the need.
