Pros
The communication here is excellent, with a company Slack channel that makes it very easy to communicate between departments. Office layout is pleasant, although the meeting room is quite small and made of glass. You can also hear through the glass which is inconvenient. Relaxed culture in some aspects - staff are allowed to listen to music at their desks, there is a bi-weekly meeting during which staff are brought lunch, and working from home is relatively flexible. The Work.Life office in general is great, people are very friendly with free tea and coffee, with snacks also provided by Paybase. Pay was very fair, and the working hours were also very good in my opinion. The flexibility to start between 9AM-10AM, and finish between 5PM-6PM was very helpful with children.
Cons
The Management are the biggest issue at Paybase, with very clear favourites and an appalling attitude to others. During my time, multiple people left for various reasons, and after speaking to them, at least two departed due to issues with management. The CEO is extremely condescending and often difficult to work with, and the CTO is very similar. Management are very difficult to get hold of, and when asking for advice on work (due to it being such a small company, you often go directly to management), it is very rare to get a response, which is not the attitude that I would expect when trying to make a business work. There is a very clear 'us' and 'them' divide. It provides a very uncomfortable atmosphere, and for a company that preaches so frequently about 'company culture', this is actually one of their weakest points.
