I applied through an employee referral. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at MDA (Richmond, BC) in Nov 2018
Interview
After being invited to interview was told to prepare for a 2 hour meeting. The interview would be split into 2 parts: 1-1:15 hour technical portion which asks detailed question about background, knowledge of certain topics (in my case data science and general software development), and a shorter 0:45-1:00 hour HR portion to assess personality and work relationship problem solving to determine if you are a good fit for company culture.
The technical portion was straightforward, when I didn't know the answers to some questions it seemed like they were assessing my knowledge base and not necessarily looking for me to be an expert already. There were some coding questions involving how to chip images to different levels of sophistication like you might if you were preparing a data set for a machine learning experiment.
Interview questions [4]
Question 1
What kind of machine learning experience do you have? Projects, courses, etc.
Given a function that can produce an image/array from the top-left pixel coordinates of the original image, how would you tile the image? How would you tile the image with overlaps in the tile? How would you tile an image that does not have symmetric dimensions?
I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at MDA in Feb 2025
Interview
Interview was not at all what I expected from the job description.
Asked a lot of questions about OOP advantages that seemed related to embedded applications.
Was given a set of questions to answer in a limited time which felt a bit lazy compared to an actual coding challenge.
Never received a rejection, very poor experience.
I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at MDA (Montreal, QC) in Jul 2023
Interview
Phone interview with HR followed by a technical interview with the team. The interview involved two coding problems plus soft skills questions about problem solving, agile vs waterfall, and communication/ dealing with a difficult coworker.

Question 1
How do you work in an agile environment? How can you improve on this code?

Interview
The interview process was unreasonable. They delved deeply into questions about my work experience at companies where I had signed NDAs, showing no concern for the potential repercussions. Despite having significant experience in other relevant areas, including actual satellite work, they neglected to inquire about those aspects. Although they profess to hire individuals passionate about space technology and care about diversity, my experience and observations of their hiring practices suggest they seek a specific type of candidate that fits a narrow profile.

Question 1
Tell me what you did at Google, what code did you use, the features you built and how, what was their procedure for rolling out features?
