Technical Analyst - Software Developer Role Interview

      Mar 28, 2016
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at J.P. Morgan in Nov 2015

      Interview

I was able to skip the initial interviews and jump straight to the final round called Interview Super Day. I was told that it was consisted of at least two interviews (one technical, one behavioral) and a 30min presentation in which it is a topic/subject/project that you have completed already. It was recommended to have a quick 1 pager or executive summary to hand out to the interviewer. The process should take at least 3 hours. Here was my experience: I came into the office and there were perhaps 12-15 candidates being interviewed that day. The wait was long as the other candidates were still in the process. (It was the worst wait ever). I had only one technical interview and then the presentation, but no behavior interview. It was either that it was coming close to the end of the day and there was not enough time, or they knew they wouldn't take me. The interviewers are kind. I didn't manage to get the job but I did receive travel reimbursement. I had no time for prepping..

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

The technical interviewer asked basic questions like: 1) Talk a little bit about yourself. 2) How does the bank make money? Then onto technical questions: 1) Given numbers 1-9, you arrange it into a 3 by 3 box (similarly to a tic tac toe board). However, the numbers cannot be adjacent to each other whether it is side-by-side or diagonally. For example: 1 and 2 cannot be together. Same for 3 and 4, 8 and 9 and so on. Make sure to explicitly state your thought process. 2) Write the class for a node of a linked list. 3) How do you check for errors for a block of code in Java? Answer: try and catch Afterwards, the presentation that I gave was cut down to maybe 10 minutes. She was more interested in how you presented the project rather than the project itself. Then onto some situational questions that she asked: 1) What would you do if you have a group member who did not contribute any work? 2) Your manager has a meeting in 10 minutes. You notice that there is a mistake in his presentation. What would you do?
