      Account Executive Interview

      Apr 4, 2016
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Chicago, IL
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Glassdoor (Chicago, IL) in Mar 2016

      Interview

I had an initial call with a recruiter, then an in person interview, then a sales presentation. I was honestly surprised to get a call about this role because I had about a year less experience than what they were looking for. In my initial phone screen, I asked the recruiter if she thought that the Sales Development Representative role would be a better fit for my experience, but she said I was "definitely being considered for the AE role." When I had my in person interview, the people interviewing me said that I wasn't as experienced as other people they were interviewing, which discouraged me because I almost felt like I wasn't taken seriously. I said I was open to the SDR role as well. I must have done well because they pushed me through to the last step (sales presentation). They said I did a good job but again, lacked experience that other candidates had. After the last step, I was called by the first recruiter and she said that candidates with more experience were selected for the job and that she'd connect me with the SDR recruiter. I felt that they knew I was under-qualified the whole time, yet still kept pushing me through to the next steps of the interview. I felt that I wasted my time and theirs. The whole thing seemed pretty disorganized and I don't have interest in another role with them, which is a shame because on the outside looking in I really thought this was a great opportunity/company.

Thanks so much for the feedback. We were fortunate that we had a lot of really awesome candidates like yourself during this hiring round, and it was a tough decision that came down to candidates that were ultimately a better fit at this time. Your experience is impressive, and the team had full confidence in your candidacy for the AE role for which you applied. I'm sorry that your interview experience wasn't what you had hoped, and we'd love the chance to continue the conversation regarding the SDR, or another role, at Glassdoor.

      Interview

I applied for the Account Executive role at Glassdoor, but unfortunately, I was unable to proceed due to the low salary they were offering during the interview. They assured me that there were "accelerators" that would boost the comp up but even with those accelerators it still was not enough. The salary offered for this position is significantly lower than the industry standards, which was disappointing. As a company that prides itself on transparency and fair salaries, Glassdoor fell short in compensating their own employees. I was excited about the opportunity to work with Glassdoor, but the low salary made it impossible for me to consider. I hope that Glassdoor re-evaluates their compensation strategy, taking into consideration the value and experience that an Account Executive can bring to the table. Until then, I cannot recommend Glassdoor as a company that values their employees' hard work and dedication.

Thank you for taking the time to write about your experience interviewing at Glassdoor. Glassdoor reviews its salaries on a regular basis, using qualitative information like your post as well as the acceptance rates of candidates, as well as comprehensive compensation benchmarking databases which help us understand how competitive we are based on different factors including company size and annual revenue. While there are some larger companies that may pay more, when looking at our packages holistically–salary, bonus, RSUs, benefits–we find that we are still very competitive as indicated both by our high acceptance rates as well as our low attrition rates. There is always more for us to learn and conditions can always change, so we are very appreciative of your feedback and wish you continued success in your search.- Danny Guillory, Chief People and Diversity Officer

Okay amount of contact with HR rep. It was an alright process. Three interviews with offer at the end. Not much different than other places I've interviewed at. Nothing special.
