      Business Development Manager Interview

      Aug 10, 2017
      Anonymous interview candidate
      McLean, VA
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. I interviewed at Capital One (McLean, VA) in Jul 2017

      Interview

It was like speed dating. Three different people. The first wasn't even paying attention to my answer after asking me "Tell me about yourself". Literally looking into her bag for things, because she got there late to the interview. She was texted by the talent assessor (which was next in the process) telling her to get out. Not professional at all. Even if they would have made an offer I would not have accepted. Their behavior showed me that they were not focused. And never looking at me when I answered. They were typing my answers into the laptops. Questions didn't lead anywhere. They were erratic. Overwhelmed management leads to no productivity or lack of discipline. I was very well prepared for this interview, and their process did not allow for the candidates to be able to shine through.

      Business Development Manager Interview

      Anonymous interview candidate

      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Capital One in Jun 2025

      Interview

The second interview was a huge disappointment. The initial screening had gone well, but during the second interview with the gatekeeper, the conversation felt frustrating and shallow. She asked a broad question about my sales experience, which didn’t match the depth of my qualifications. Looking back, I should’ve asked, 'What exactly would you like to know from my resume?' as I had a lot of relevant experience. I couldn’t help but feel that she judged me based on my physical appearance, and not in a positive way. After asking just one question, she abruptly ended the call. Her tone was rude, and I’ve heard similar feedback from others who’ve interviewed with her. I feel bad for the screener, though. The gatekeeper in the department likely thinks she’s being sent unqualified candidates, but that isn’t the case. I knew two people who didn’t make it past her either, and I was more than qualified. It was a frustrating, unprofessional interaction that left me grateful I didn’t have to work with her.
