      Program Delivery Manager Interview

      Aug 21, 2019
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Bratislava
      No offer
      Positive experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Amazon (Bratislava) in Jul 2019

      Interview

A senior recruiter found me via Linkedin and shared the position stating my profile was a good match for a new position. Obviously, I was interested and more details were shared. Then there was a phone screening call to check some of my CV details. 2 interviews followed after within a week. I was interviewed by somebody in the same team and then with the hiring manager. This time the questions were related to my experience and my skill and what would I do in particular scenarios are given. Two days after the recruiter gave me positive feedback that I was moved to the second phase of the process, but I will need first to submit an on-line writing exercise. This has 2 interview questions and you need to answer one of them with a text of max 2 pages, giving the context of the problem, what did you do, what were the benefits of it and why is important for you. I selected to answer 'what is the most innovative thing you ever have done?' Basically, you need to follow the STAR (Situation, Task, Action, Results ) method. You need to complete this 2 days prior to your next interviews. Afterwards, I was invited to 5 more interviews (3 on-site and face to face, and 2 virtual via Chime app) each of them 45 minutes. The ones in Amazon offices were from HR and Finance department and the on-line with some Indian team. All questions were from the typical 'tell me about a time' to evaluate your experience and how did you handle. These questions are based on the 14 Amazon principles by CEO Jeff Bezos and interviewers try to find your leadership skills through them. But in my opinion, interviewers focused too much on the negative side and bad experiences (fail). So very little time to show good results or when you succeed. To my surprise, the two online interviews were with the same people from the first round (probably to be double sure about it...) I believed I did well, but most likely I didn't manage to impress the 'Bar-raiser' who is one of the interviewers (is the least related role in the process) who makes sure you need to be super creative and skilled enough to beat the current team and of course that you will fit and will be exceeding expectations from day one. The hiring decision is made out of the 5 feedbacks you receive, but be aware that bar-raiser can over rule the hiring manager feedback and as a result I was rejected. Overall, I am ok with the result as I noticed by my questions 5 mins before finishing that it seems to be a very stressful and demanding environment where you probably need to hit the ground running once you would accept the job offer. Some interviewer declined to answer my questions in the same style: 'tell me about a time when you had to fire somebody or a time when you did promote an employee? However, I was impressed with the due diligence my jop application was handled and the updates received during the hiring process, and I wish they could provide you with more of personal feedback with areas to improve or skills to develop and the main reason of decision. This is what you expect after spending almost 1 month, 2 hours writing exercise and 7 hours of interviews, adding this the time to prepare for them...
