#SuccesswithCyTOF: While traditional #flowcytometry approaches provide moderate sensitivity and specificity for #myelodysplasticsyndrome (MDS) analysis, a new study from Stanford University suggests that high-dimensional cytometry approaches could potentially enhance both the sensitivity and specificity of cytometry in MDS diagnosis in the future. The much higher resolution of #masscytometry with atomic mass detection, combined with barcoding techniques that permit multiple samples to be stained and analyzed with high precision, facilitates high-parameter analysis of multiple samples. Study results demonstrate that simultaneous analysis of all cell populations in the bone marrow of patients with MDS can yield additional diagnostic and prognostic insights and could allow for a more objective phenotypic classification of MDS in the future. New landmark Nature paper from @Bodenmillerlab demonstrates the power of the Fluidigm Hyperion Imaging System to identify novel cellular signatures in #breastcancer that correlate with distinct clinical outcomes. "The results of our study demonstrate that highly multiplexed IMC provides a superior approach to identify single-cell signatures that correlate with clinical outcomes compared with current histology-based approaches.
