Pros

Use latest and greatest technology stack. You get a lot of gimmicks like free snacks & drinks and a nice office, or from home. Get to work and talk about marijuana all day and technology.

Cons

They don't invest in their new employees. Expect to be hired without much knowledge of your experienced and fired the moment they learn you don't meet 12/12 on a theoretical "Joel Test" afterward.

We're sorry to hear that you didn't enjoy your time at Weedmaps. Weedmaps has a very high talent bar and will always be in the pursuit of seeking the greatest technology talent and improving them via sending developers to conferences, hosting hack nights and our implementation of a guild system to allow developers the ability to push for the latest and greatest technologies. We invest heavily into our technology team and culture is also of great important to us. As we rapidly expand, we're always looking to improve our hiring methods... unfortunately (and is likely the case with any other company that's rapidly expanding), sometimes with trial and error. Best of luck with your future endeavors.

Pros

Weedmaps was once a useful resource for cannabis consumers to connect with legacy markets. However, due to the gradual softening of cannabis rules & regulations in the U.S. and Canada, the company is rapidly becoming irrelevant in the world of legal cannabis. One could describe the style of leadership at Weedmaps as: “A fast and loose game of Russian roulette where the weapon is perpetually aimed at the staff.” The exclusive cabal of executive ‘leadership’ are completely devoid of any vision for the company and have repeatedly failed to create a viable plan to grow the business. Targets are completely arbitrary and not based in reality whatever because a greedy, inept executive team dangerously overcommitted growth targets in order to IPO. Despite polished messaging from the CEO and his comrades across internal & public channels - specifically Slack & quarterly earnings calls - Weedmaps routinely proves that they are unable to compete in the spaces where they go head-to-head with Google, Dutchie, Uber, and nearly every comparable cannabis software provider on the market. The aggressive focus on revenue production in recent years separated the company from their core values and caused them to fall into severe tech debt. Employee morale is non-existent, the tech debt is overwhelming, app users are dwindling (publicly reported MAUs are extremely questionable), the executive suite is comically ineffectual, and tenured employees like myself are hastily resigning. Despite prevailing narratives, the business solutions offered by Weedmaps are far from best in class when compared to competitive POS/e-commerce solutions. If this seems far fetched then speak with some dispensary owners directly for confirmation. Lack of integration partners, clunky tech stacks, diminishing user engagement, poor ROI on ad spends, and negative end-user experiences are just some of the challenges suffocating Weedmaps as they continue to be outmaneuvered by their competitors.

Cons

There are some tremendous people working in the lower/middle ranks at Weedmaps but ultimately their efforts are squashed by an overbearing and incompetent management team. The juice is not worth the squeeze.

Pros

The industry it exists in remains strong

Cons

Everyone I respect has left this company. HR is desperate to get new talent and you can see this when 4+ current employees give us 5 stars on here on the same day. That's management driving the reviews. Teams openly talk poorly of the CEO/President in meetings and state they don't care if WeedMaps fires them anymore. Career growth has stopped and no one seems to be getting cost of living raises in recent years regardless of what was promised at hiring. I fought management for nearly a year trying to get a 2k bonus for one of my direct reports before giving up and telling my employee I appreciated the extra effort but was unable to give them a reward to show it. The CEO has no experience being an executive, the CTO is entirely uninvolved in actually directing the tech, and the COO quit to go work at a different marijuana company and was replaced by the CMO for some reason.
