I have been working at VMware full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Great CEO, driving the right partnerships and acquisitions. Good products, making the shift to subscription offerings.

    Cons

Very business unit driven and product focused. Internal tools and processes are a mess. Competing silos are everywhere causing duplication of effort. Promotions only really available if you are willing to move to Palo Alto.

    Advice to Management

Improve internal processes and tools. Reduce business unit noise and align multiple teams focused on making the customer successful.

I worked at VMware full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Great place to work. Great Technologies although left behind a bit in the race of competition with competitor vendors comparing 2005 to 2012 which VMware was a solid leader. Lost the race after that which still could be a leader sadly

    Cons

Since 2013-2014 less qualified managers hired globally with a huge turnover because of lack of basic knowledge in the field and with irrelevant background even non IT managers to manage highly advanced technology teams (internally or externally). Company was not transparent right before and since Dell EMC acquisition. Although things were falling of the hill, we were keep hearing things are better and we are hiring... while it was complete the opposite behind the scene. The value of loyalty between the employees went down hill and loyalty of the company stood in front of a big bold question mark. Lovely company but very sad.
