Pros

-The animal experience is good -Many people on the floor are great to work with -The studies you get assigned to can be interesting

Cons

-Since the change in upper management the company has become very business-focused, which has put a lot of people under pressure. It's easy to get overworked and have poor work-life balance -You could be working there for years and not see a promotion or significant raise. They make it certain that a small amount of people actually have authority -You NEED to have a vehicle or a reliable ride to get there -They tell you that other facets of the company matter, but its clear the #1 priority is running as many studies as possible to generate more revenue. All of the other stuff falls to the wayside -Some management can be unsupportive when you go to them about struggling at the job

Not an "amazing job" for everyone

Pros

For my job in particular, there is a good amount of flexibility and trust. However, I hold a unique position so this is not applicable to all roles. There is some level of job security and the benefits have improved.

Cons

Pay is still below median. I have worked here for years and my salary is not reflective of that experience. There also doesn't seem to be easy career progression and they prefer external hiring. While some may "rave" about this place and think it's a 5 star job, there are others that think it's a 1 star for completely valid reasons. Across the board everyone has heavy workloads, and it's rare to be on top of all of your goals for the year. This can be discouraging for those that pride themselves in personal development. But those with "higher positions" don't seem to be phased by that, hence the positive reviews by them. Technician and assistant jobs on the other hand? Much more difficult, and their salaries aren't helping them enough with the stresses of their work. There seems to be a disconnect from what the work on the floor is really worth. The 1 star reviews prove that. It also goes without saying that there isn't a great work life balance and there is pressure to come in for extra hours or squeeze in extra projects. There is 0 respect for the average employee's personal time, which can be demoralizing. Why would anyone want to work harder if the payoff is ultimately not worth it?

Pros

Some of my coworkers were nice and fun to work with.

Cons

The smell of animal waste and sound of dogs barking is like several bricks to the face, and that’s with both a mask and ear protection. I couldn’t stand working in these conditions (the smell was a huge issue for me) and was happy to transfer to the rodent department which was far less offensive. I left a full time job with benefits for this position, and was promised I’d be promoted soon after hire with an accompanying raise, but that never happened because I was terminated without cause before reaching the end of my probation. No one cared to give me an actual reason for my dismissal, citing that “things weren’t working out” or that “it just wasn’t a good fit”, which is incredibly damaging to one’s mental health and made me paranoid that I was actually being illegally dismissed for being on the autism spectrum, which I had disclosed to my supervisor in confidence while discussing communication styles. Just goes to show that these managers aren’t worth trusting at all and don’t actually care about the mental health of their staff.
