Pros

Pay is above average for position. That doesn't make it worth it though. Culture was toxic from the first day, and reinforced in every interaction.

Cons

Where to start... everyone at the company seems to hate the CEO and likely each other. Every single person I onboarded with had something bad to say about another staff member, and was warned that the CEO frequently curses to employees faces. Quite the team there. - They require NY staff to be full time in person, yet are incredibly contradictory when half of the staff is remote and overseas. - No COVID precaution in the office, no check for vaccines, no mask wearing. - During my interview, was told that in-office hours were loose, but showed up on the first day to none of my supervisors being in office, and then being told it was a strict 8:30-6pm schedule. - Twice weekly mandatory team lunches? - Office is open environment yet silent all day as everyone seems to be walking on eggshells. - Lack of organization, consistent with startup culture, okay, sure. - Was told that "if you don't have it in writing, it doesn't mean anything, and even then it's still not a guarantee" regarding approved work, taking time off, going out for your lunch hour etc... - The media site is focused on being a glorified sales funnel for clunky tech that doesn't properly load - On first day, was told to read hours worth of material that reinforces toxic work culture - encouraging working late and Netflix's culture of getting fired quickly. - You'll notice that many of the Glassdoor reviews were posted on the same day in September 2021, almost as if someone brought to their attention the negative reviews in their resignation email.

Cruel and awful

Pros

The only pro at this company is the high pay. But even employees who were being paid as much as $25k above market left the company because leadership is so bad and toxic - I quit even though I was making more than I would elsewhere.

Cons

They demand employees be at their Manhattan office 5 days per week with no vaccine mandate despite every competitor offering remote work. Work/life balance is terrible, and the CEO will frequently send Slack messages past 11pm. There is no vision or direction for the website other than whatever the CEO decides he wants to read that week, and a misguided obsession with clicks that leads to unethical decision making. Upper management is horrendous and cruel. You will often receive confusing or contradictory directions. The CEO of the company berates employees, goes on rants about being a "winner" and threatens employees' jobs. He has surrounded himself with yes-men and problems at the company are recurring. Turnover is incredibly high - in the time I worked there, a large number of employees left and they had not been able to hire back even half of what was lost. I would not recommend this company to anyone looking to advance their career in media, or to anyone who cares about their mental health.

Pros

Decent money and fairly simple

Cons

Shoddy data/product, toxic and disorganized management, no editorial independence, little opportunity for career advancement, volatile leadership, high stress. Could've been a good workplace and organization, but they bully their staff.
