Pros

- You'll learn how companies manipulate public opinion through the press behind the scenes. Have to admit that is interesting. - On a personal level, management are nice. It's on the professional level that things get complicated.

Cons

- They cannot be trusted. While appearing very friendly on the surface, junior employees are essentially fodder. They aren't interested in your wellbeing or development. You are expected to look after yourself and make it on your own - not that that is made easy either. - The fact the management is good at appearing nice (manipulating appearances is their job after all) means it can take a while to figure out they haven't got your back. - In practice, I was lied to about my contract and about the "standard practice" in contracts both locally and within the company. My salary was actually OK, but the 'fake full time employee' set up left me seriously out of pocket in the long run as I was burdened with accountancy fees. - This salary set up is of (highly) dubious legality under Belgian law. I was criticised by management for raising that as a concern and looking for reassurance. - You will be run into the ground to deliver with little support or direction. Your manager will have little or no management experience outside of Red Flag. This isn't the same as autonomy- you better believe you'll be held accountable to unreasonable standards and micromanaged. - Many of the standards are driven by company culture and the personal preference of managers, not the needs of clients. You will be called out on the unknowable. - Say hello to playing the eternal internal "game" to scrape your way to promotion. - Wave goodbye to individual thoughts that dont match preconceived company culture (all the while being told the opposite).

Pros

- If you prove yourself you will be doing genuinely very important client work fast - Red Flag's work is business critical for clients and most other agencies can only dream of being as close to their clients as Red Flag are - CEO and upper management generally very good for mucking in and leading by example - Generally very understanding management - Good work perks, company lunches, travel, etc - The opportunity to work on a broad spectrum of comms work, everything from public affairs to PR to digital, if you like it and show potential you'll be encouraged to specialise in an area that suits you - Working with extraordinarily smart and talented people, even compared with other agencies in Dublin Red Flag has some of the best

Cons

- You will be working on important work, if you are up for it, but with that comes pressure - No room to hide, if you are not up to it and not delivering you will be found out fast - You will have to know your own worth, it is up to you to take the initiative a lot of the time so do not copy what you think works well for others, try to carve out your own way so you don't end up getting dragged along somewhere else - Be aware of when you need to switch off, it can be difficult

Pros

Comfortable work environment. Growth opportunities if you perform and show initiative.

Cons

I could not stand the elitist, dismissive attitude of management towards the very people they tried to influence. The nature of the job in a middling lobbying agency is, as expected, very toxic. The clients will be mostly associations of companies from various industries, for all of whom there is a reason they need to contract the agency to influence public opinion and legislation. But again, if your politics align with what these companies do or if you don't mind and are able to leave your conflicting morality at the door, its a pretty nice spot to grow.
