Pros

They foster your desire to learn. Your path is yours to choose Right from the start you feel empowered to do the things you want to do. Micro Management is not in the Novacoast dictionary. Your not just an employee, you are family. You are paid well for your work

Cons

Not really a con but as long as you are doing the job you are left alone. If you need help you've got to say so.

Pros

Can't think of one. Within two weeks of being there, I knew this place was a huge joke.

Cons

- Sales oriented company. It is all about the money at NC. Their sales staff are the real stars. Sweet talk your clients and promise them the world, get them into a contract, then provide them with subpar services. Sales staff = used car salesmen. Clients are nothing but dollar signs. - Terrible shift times. They could easily do a better job of having some flexibility. Have a life or family outside of work? Then don't apply here. - Staff are under educated and under paid. Most staff watching your network have no certifications and no experience. Just young kids that don't mind the low pay and crappy hours. They offer training. Not real training mind you, just the same stuff you can get for free online. - Wall of Shame. This is the hilarious whiteboard inside of the office that has all the names of past employees. Nothing builds morale like working in an environment in which you are reminded of all the people that left or were fired. Don't push any buttons or your name will be on that wall soon. - CEO is an out of touch, narcissistic, money grubbing, COVID denier. - Every employee talks crap internally about the company. Every employee hired in my group of new hires was gone within months. Most employees that moved up the chain ended up finding better jobs, and had no problems communicating that with people still there. - Second level analysts do not like their job. They do not like fixing your company's problems. They are in no hurry to fix bugs or investigate issues. They are terribly underpaid and under a huge amount of stress due to all of the various systems and programs that they maintain. They spend most of their time writing reports instead of resolving issues. As a result, most of them are not easy to work with. - Management. Well, what management? They don't manage anything. One of them talks about his life and divorce all the time, and is currently banging one of the women in administration. The other is completely underpaid and her plate is always full. - Want time off, good luck with that. Typically you need months in advance to make that happen. Why? Because of the terribly poor shift design and coverage. So how do people get time off in less time? Cough cough, I'm feeling sick today and can't make it in. Let's just say, lots of people are sick frequently. - Developers. Ah the life. The NC developers, like the sales staff, have it pretty good. In fact, they have it better. They basically don't exist on a daily basis. They have a game room, TV and couch, thoughtful work environment, and get together a lot to play games. But find bugs or need changes, good luck with that. They are too busy playing D&D. The last piece of software they introduced, was released as a complete and udder mess. Try not to criticize though, they don't take that well. - Most of the technical positions could be fully automated. You spend your days chasing and tracking garbage on the network you are "protecting." It is rare to have actual breaches. - This place likes to think that they are far more important than they are. Internally it's treated like they are crimefighters or something. Shift change meetings with other locations in which there is almost nothing important to discuss, and no reason for everyone to be involved. But it certainly makes you "feel" more important. - There are many security issues with their internal networks and physical onsite security. This isn't the government, this is a for profit company that pays the people doing the footwork as little as possible to do the job. The SB location is in a building that couldn't be any worse for a security center. But they piecemeal it all together into one ill-coherent work environment. But hey, the building looks cool. - For those of us that are older, social engineering is an incredibly useful, sometimes lost art form. Sadly, this place is full of people that were SO susceptible to manipulation for information. Maybe if they had a better work environment and pay scale, that wouldn't be as much of a concern. But when you have disgruntled employees, it's a walk in the park to find out what you need. - Parking in SB sucks - Employees frequently breach protocol for various reasons. Although, back to my earlier point, if you treat them like crap, don't expect them to care about your business. I feel like I could go on, and on, and on, and on, and on. But I think you get the picture. Speaking of pictures, I actually took pictures internally of some of the things I have brought up. This includes the wall of shame, various messages on sales staff boards alluding to their real intent, CEO emails highlighting what a joke he is (especially when COVID hit), and various protocol and security breaches that I personally witnessed. I seriously can not believe this company stays in business. But given the incredible amount of turnover, they just continue to sell the same BS story to the next victims, and sweep everything under the rug along the way. Like I said, run, don't walk from this place. Your career and company will regret ever considering them.

Pros

Foot in the door, laid back and easy (not very technical at all)

Management is terrible and micromanage everything. The pay is god awful, even at entry level it is just plain terrible. If you do work here all you hear about is gossip and how everyone is applying for other positions to get out of Novacoast. No growth and not a "true SOC". Sales lies about the analyst credentials to get clients and in reality at least 60% of the analyst do not know what they are doing. Communication/Collaboration is beyond awful. The CEO sends out emails literally degrading the lower level employees and if you bring up anything wrong about best practices expect to have a target on your back. I can go all day about what is wrong with this company. I guess work here if you need a foot in the door but just use the extreme amounts of down time to get certs and leave.
