Pros

- Mission-driven - Opportunities to lead research and engagements from junior-levels - Pay is good, but progresses slowly unless you are director-level (significant pay disparity between managers and directors) - Kind, caring and smart global employees

Cons

- Leadership is uninspiring, particularly the executive director who has a problematic approach to communication and management. - Clear gap between senior management and staff in direction of organisation's mission, particularly on friendly with corporates. - Limited transparency on decision-making, progression, funding and salary changes. - Director-level roles are seemingly created to reward years at InfluenceMap, rather than being based on specific expertise or merit. - Projects often significantly delayed due to everything requiring executive-level sign-off (irrespective of project size). - Struggled with progressing from small organisation (~25) to a medium sized organisation (~75), noticeable in delays for new HR and development documentation. - Rely on hiring graduates, even to replace experienced staff members. - DEI seems to be a non-issue, reflective of senior management priorities

Pros

The pay is good and the experience can be good depending on what you do. The mission is important

Cons

Career progression can really stall if there happens to be no job to move up into or more people to manage. InfluenceMap can expect a lot of it's employees. Often 1-2 employees are given really ambitious projects with very little expertise to pull on. This can be great if you succeed and you learn a lot. But can also be very stressful if you end up struggling. The management can be very chaotic and out of touch with the core work force and often decisions seem to be nonsensical. For example, often research needs to be almost completely redone because right at the end when ready for review, management suddenly decide they want a different data source.

Pros

The team of analysts is very supportive and knowledgeable. It’s also a good role for learning about how policies and lobbying operate.

Cons

The management team is generally very poor, with little to no training provided for managers, which leaves many unqualified for their roles. The company runs more like a production line of analysts, with repetitive tasks, minimal opportunities for progression, and limited pay rises. Senior leadership, including the CEO, appears out of touch with the day-to-day reality, and the culture can at times be unprofessional. Overall, this job can be draining, and I would recommend looking elsewhere for a role with genuine career development and better management.
