Pros
Any agtech startup still going after a decade has something on the ball. Hectre has been built around an enthusiastic culture and established niche market position in apple sizing at receiving, And thanks to the New Zealand AIP visa scheme, they now (2026) have Series A funding (US$7M).
Cons
1) The company is seriously overextended: too many regions, crops and products to develop and support. And they are now attempting to transition from software to hardware. As a result, they consistently overpromise and underdeliver - for both customers and employees. 2) This is a VERY Kiwi-centric company, despite most revenue coming from the Americas. Hard to see how this works long term. 3) If you don't have much experience and get a chance to cut your professional teeth with Hectre, enjoy the ride! If you expect professional management, look somewhere else.
