Making a different with climate change!
Pros
I am incredibly motivated by the mission of this startup to improve forestry and make a difference with climate change. As an early employee, it is very rewarding to be building out this technology and getting to make important technical decisions that will set us up for long-term success. Everyone I've worked with has been very open and accommodating of my ideas. The CEO has just as much of a focus on the forestry technology as on building up the right kind of supportive, open, and diverse company climate. Even though I am not a co-founder, I have gotten a significant amount of stock options, and I find that literal ownership in the company exciting.
Cons
It is an early-stage startup! We are still small, and I often need to pivot my focus from one task to something entirely different. I don't always love these context switches, but until we have more people hired, I have to make do with covering for roles that aren't here yet. Despite stock options, the salary is not competitive with larger established businesses. But that is okay, because I am more concerned about wanting to make a positive difference for the world!
