Pros

Starting out as a new college hire, this is a great place to work. They start by introducing you to the company and its mission and values (which the company truly does follow). After that they put you through a training program that teaches the USAA development environment. I was afraid this was going to be just a "here's how to program class", but instead it was a really useful opportunity where I became friends with other new hires, learned how to use the development environment, and got to work on real work from teams in a learning environment. USAA also has a program called Nexus for new college hires where you hang out and network with other college hires (You can be a member of this for three years after joining). Along with this, USAA has a program called Aspire which is about helping women in tech. As a female in tech this is a really great place to work. My team has almost an equal number of women as men. The benefits are great and my manager really encourages using your own initiative and asking questions. All of the management is super friendly, and I can go to anyone in the office and talk to them. I really love working here, and I love how much this company truly focuses on serving the members.

Cons

My pay isn't as good as if I worked at google, but it is adequate for a single person living in this area. I might have given up a higher salary, but I feel great every day because I know what I am doing is helping make our member's lives better and easier.

Slow IT support, limited interactions with industry. Banking business is not as mature as insurance.
