Pros

-Pays the bills -Gain valuable customer service experience -Great benefits -Learn about the Insurance industry

Cons

-Training is not thorough and does not prepare you for the position -Job has an "every man for himself" feel -Job requires you to meet strict metrics -Company values meeting your numbers over providing valuable customer service -Position has only gotten harder with time, and benefits have not increased to match -Extremely difficult to move up for entry-level employees, even with a degree -Management does not have set standards for employee promotions and raises -Extremely high turnover rate for claim-handling positions -Career opportunities are slim if you are not at a main "hub" location -Company will prevent you from applying to other lateral and promotional positions when staffing is low, which is all the time -Entry-level Claim Associates are some of the lowest-paid in the industry, regardless of experience or education level -They will tell you its "not a call center," but it basically is -Answering back-to-back phone calls with little breaks or task time -Working odd hours and weekends -Extremely difficult to trade shifts with other associates

Pros

(At the time) Fair pay and predictable bonus structure They were pretty good at covering travel expenses and paying them back quickly Diverse workforce & diversity initiatives Fun and funny coworkers Opportunities for growth Again, this was all four years ago and has likely changed

Cons

(At the time and now, according to other comments) Arrogant to a fault Total lack of innovation & willingness to innovate Odd attachment to the company's past (which prevents progress) High number of veterans (20+ years) who are determined to get that retirement money, and therefore, are resistant to change and technology Heavy reliance on command and control management style Poor decision-making that leads to losses of all kinds
