Easygoing atmosphere, but management could use a little common sense. - Business Analyst State Farm Employee Review

Pros

Corporate South has a nice, easygoing casual environment. Hours were flexible and no one is hovering over you watching your every move, (although this does vary by department.) I personally found it to be a college campus type of environment. They have several cafeterias and little snack shops and lost of activities to get involved in. Depending on your position, you might spend a good portion of your day just walking to and from meetings which is actually kind of nice because before you know it, it's time to go home.

Cons

It's all in who you know. I've seen several cases where very competent workers were passed up for a promotion just so some complete idiot who was cozy with management could slide in. The work is also not divided up correctly. Some people are just buried in work while others are sitting around twiddling their thumbs. For externals, State Farm will let someone's contract expire due to budget cuts, then turn around and hire another external a week later once the new budget is approved. Not very smart.

Pros

(At the time) Fair pay and predictable bonus structure They were pretty good at covering travel expenses and paying them back quickly Diverse workforce & diversity initiatives Fun and funny coworkers Opportunities for growth Again, this was all four years ago and has likely changed

Cons

(At the time and now, according to other comments) Arrogant to a fault Total lack of innovation & willingness to innovate Odd attachment to the company's past (which prevents progress) High number of veterans (20+ years) who are determined to get that retirement money, and therefore, are resistant to change and technology Heavy reliance on command and control management style Poor decision-making that leads to losses of all kinds
