Pros

Good pay and benefits - at the time. After working claims you will likely think hard about where you want to be in the future.

Cons

Very stressful job, especially dealing with northeast customers who can't be pleased no matter how much they are given. However, not enough staffing combined with an unrealistic workload makes the situation immensely worse. Everyday now it seems State Farm is finding more things for you to do that take away more time from getting the customer taken care of, which ultimately leads to more problems for you - not management or State Farm - YOU! What we have now is a situation where employees are so overworked/stressed that they are now in survival mode and just doing what they can to get through the day - moving files forward w/o actually working them, not returning calls, etc etc. If you HAVE to work here, get promoted and try not to deal with the customer. You need to be mobile however.

Pros

(At the time) Fair pay and predictable bonus structure They were pretty good at covering travel expenses and paying them back quickly Diverse workforce & diversity initiatives Fun and funny coworkers Opportunities for growth Again, this was all four years ago and has likely changed

Cons

(At the time and now, according to other comments) Arrogant to a fault Total lack of innovation & willingness to innovate Odd attachment to the company's past (which prevents progress) High number of veterans (20+ years) who are determined to get that retirement money, and therefore, are resistant to change and technology Heavy reliance on command and control management style Poor decision-making that leads to losses of all kinds
