Pros

Let's get the pros out of the way first: - Snacks (lots to choose from and various options to fit all diet types) - Free Lunches if your on the sales floor or have a manager that loves to keep their team going - Overall Benefits package (excluding comp) is strong, especially with the 401k Match that started this year - The PEOPLE you work with are truly awesome one of a kind genuine folk. Overall Smartsheet is just another job with good perks. Expect an Okay experience.

Cons

That saying, "it's not about what you know, it's about who you know," rings true at Smartsheet. Before jumping into that, here is the cliff note version of the cons: - Culture - Leadership - Comp (Especially for sales) - Career Development Your success at Smartsheet solely depends on who your manager is at hire. There are some managers that embody the values and carry them down to the team. However, the majority of mid to upper management see people as numbers and logos as stock growers. Much of the sales folk are trained to work for metrics, rather than to push themselves for further development. If you have a manager that is truly vested in you, you will succeed at Smartsheet. Having experienced both, there is a world of difference of how one thrives at Smartsheet. Comp on the sales floor is on the low end compared to the market. Mid-Market Reps are being paid what SMB reps are making across the street. There is room to over-achieve on quota, but that will solely depend on your book, how quickly you pick up the product and how supportive your manager will be. Career development, like values, is there on paper but not where the rubber meets the road. There's a lot of places you can grow like the Leadership Development Program, LinkedIn Learning, and other one off projects. But when it comes to being promoted into a desired position, there enters red-tape and if you pass that you then have to fit the clique of leadership. Hard work solely pays off, however, knowing hiring manager and fitting into the "good ol' boys club," is a direct shoe in.

Thanks for your feedback, and I’m glad to hear there were aspects of your time at Smartsheet that you enjoyed. I’m sorry to hear that your experience with our training, leadership development, and product knowledge programs didn’t result in you meeting your success and promotion goals. We strive for transparency during the recruitment process about the fluidity of the book that sales employees get once hired, and we give reps options around their books at annual reviews. We’re also proud to offer top-of-the-market pay, particularly for mid-market reps, in addition to a full suite of employee benefits. As a company we value growth, and that's why we provide reps at all levels with development opportunities, not all of which are reliant on their managers. Many of our people leaders have in fact been developed from rep roles. Thank you again for taking the time to provide feedback. I'm happy to discuss any of these topics further. –Mike Arntz, CRO & SVP WW Field Operations

Pros

Supportive of AI tooling. I had a great manager. I heard the severance packages are great, but I left of my own volition, so I don’t have personal experience.

Cons

Complete lack of direction or management at the mid to high levels of the company in product and engineering (most everyone left or was pushed out by cronyism from the private equity acquisition). No more equity offered to employees. No opportunities for promotion. They’ve shipped or are shipping most of the core products (including the core “sheet” aka Grid app) to India and have laid off tons of employees (somewhere between 12% and 15% of the company). Upper management did the thing where they had the US developers interview tons of people out of India, and then about half a year later laid off tons US developers, including several of the people that did the interviews. Upper management said that the India teams would be working on other projects, but clearly that was a lie. They laid off people without consulting their managers, or their manager’s managers, and without knowing what team they actually worked on or what they did. So entire teams were laid off unbeknownst to them. Very quick and poor handoffs to India, if any. You will likely be working on multiple teams at once, or moved to multiple teams during your time there in short periods of time. On-call can be a nightmare. There is no culture of any kind. Basically do not work here, whether you’re out of the US, India, or Bulgaria (the main countries for developers).

Thank you for your honesty. While we’re glad that you had a great team and the tools you needed, it’s incredibly tough to hear that other aspects of your experience were less than great. To your point about equity, we’d like to clarify that we do offer a limited equity pool with specific eligibility. That said, navigating transition is already tough, and adding in other aspects like global shifts and new leadership can make it feel even harder. We know the dust hasn’t completely settled, and we understand that we have a lot of work to do to repair employee trust and morale. We’ve set off on that journey, and we appreciate all of this feedback along the way. Thank you, and we wish you all the best in your next chapter.
