Pros

I met some very nice, capable people at Nordstrom. None of them were IT managers.

Cons

The man at the top of the organization started out in women's shoes. Thirty or so years ago. Let's start there. When the company first ventured into e-commerce, you'd imagine it'd recruit expertise in that area. Nah. The company instead staffed senior positions in its IT organization with hack lifers from its brick and mortar organization. The company draws in talented people -- because of the brand's prestige, it always will -- then proceeds to make them miserable. Nordstrom, as a company, embodies everything I revile about Seattlites of Nordic extraction: it's generically pleasant but unknowable. It's main goal is to avoid, not incompetence, but unpleasantness. Also, it's cheap. You'll get paid better anywhere else. You really don't want to work here.

Pros

No micro managing, fast paced, management is good and understanding.

Cons

Long hours, and down times could make time go by so slow.

Pros

Decent base pay, somewhat autonomous, great tip potential.

Cons

The company has changed for the worse since COVID. When I came back the mood of the entire store had shifted. Gone were the days of comradery, customer focus, and taking pride in a job well done. In its place there is a new culture of cutthroat sales, a severe decline in customer focus, and worst of all a new focus on profit over customer satisfaction. When I was told that the amount the store charged for a shoe shine was not enough to do the best job I could for a customer I knew things had gone downhill for the company. Not to mention I watch a manager prey on a mentally disabled person in order to secure a sale, when the person could not understand what was being offered. Sad that such a once great company is now just another greed ridden corporation.
