Pros
Decent discount. I want so badly to list more, but can't think of any. I would stay at Nordstrom if I felt that I have been valued or heard. But while leadership claims to have an open door policy, and does a very good impression of listening to employees, it is truly just for show. When I started at Nordstrom, I was so excited to work with an old company that was determined to adjust for a contemporary audience. But infighting, instability, and a gloomy atmosphere soon had me looking for a new job with a company that values my contributions. I can't wait to leave.
Cons
Petty, gossipy upper management. Nepotism at the highest levels. Cliques that make life miserable for some people who aren't "in." Top-heavy org chart with the squeakiest wheels (but not always the most skills) at the tippy-top--witness the creative VP appointment, a shocking misjudgment. Reverence for social connections that outweighs creative or business contributions. Troubling lack of ethnic diversity. Few females in C-level positions. A boys' club that makes hiring and promotion decisions based on personal preference. An org that changes about once per year. Rampant disorganization. Awful morale.
