Pros
I've worked at IKEA Richmond for about a year. Overall it's a good place to work with decent career progression if you put in the effort and have a bit of patience. IKEA is tolerant of all religions, backgrounds and celebrates diversity among employees. They encourage people to be themselves and celebrate the LGBTQ+ community quite actively. There are some really great people here and you will make great friends. The co-worker restaurant is excellent and provides very reasonably priced meals. In terms of retail jobs, it's certainly one of the best places I've worked.
Cons
IKEA is an exceptionally busy store. 10,000+ people come through the doors on an average Saturday or Sunday and as a result the customer base is extremely diverse. You will deal with wealthy people, students, people on a budget and people from all backgrounds. This can make the job incredibly challenging and complaints are a semi-regular occurance. It often feels as though there aren't enough staff. People wait long periods of time in departments and as a result get frustrated. IKEA systems are slow and cumbersome to use which negatively effect the customer experience. A lot of people complain about being lost and whinge about the layout of the store. You will give directions constantly. A lot of people don't understand the self serve system and as a result you will need to explain this dozens of times per day. Your experience will entirely depend on your manager. If you get a good one, you will have a good time. A bad manager will mean limited progression and an overall poor experience. A lot of good people tend to leave as they feel undervalued. There are a lot of students and young people here so it can be difficult to get people motivated for work.
