Pros

You might have chance to work in the top investment bank as their tiny supporter.

Cons

1. In contract, you are not their employee, you are FDM's product for sell to their clients 2. In contract, you can't say no to their arrangement, if they want to send you to somewhere you don't want to go. 3. In contract, you have to stay with FDM for 2 years if you are got a chance to work with a clients. The salary is £22,000 p.a. for the first year and £24,000 for the second year. In the meantime, if you leave FDM, you have to pay £20,000 to FDM as to cover their lost. 4. The sales floor in FDM don't really care about you. All they want is to sell you as a "product" to their clients. 5. If you reject the arrangement from FDM, their HR will put you in a room with the contract you sign and say either you have to pay £20,000 or follow their arrangement.

FDM Group Response

I’m very sorry to hear that you did not enjoy your experience with FDM and especially that you think we don’t care about our consultants. Our people are the most important part of our business, which is why we invest a significant amount of resources into launching careers. We appreciate that the programme may not suit everyone, which is why we try to be as transparent as possible and go through the model as well as all the terms and conditions (including the salary), during the assessment process. There is a 2 week ‘cooling off’ period after starting for you to really work out if FDM is the right career move also. We do try to accommodate preferences for placement where possible and, we like to encourage our consultants to join the clients as a permanent employee after the two year bond with FDM. So placing people somewhere which is not their preferred geographic location is not something FDM likes to do. That said, placement locations vary depending on client demand and therefore geographical flexibility is a requirement (which we reiterate throughout the recruitment process). The vast majority of FDM consultants progress to enjoy successful and lucrative careers, which is what we set out to achieve. We are always looking for ways to continue improving and welcome all feedback. If you’re willing to discuss your feedback further with me, I would welcome the opportunity – please email me at Andy.Brown@fdmgroup.com Andy Brown – Chief Commercial Officer

Pros

It is a job that pays.

Cons

They will promise you opportunities that don't exist. The company they contract you to will promise you work that you will not be assigned. I was a Java Consultant with a masters degree in Math and certificate in full stack and I was shoved into a manual testing position that required zero coding and constantly dangled automation in front of my face. When I was asked to look at Selenium, I studied it in some of the copious amounts of downtime i had and was reprimanded during the next meeting for 'wasting company time'. I moved from Texas to New Jersey for my first position. After contracts with the company were terminated, I was pulled off my assignment only to be abruptly fired for "lack of geoflexibility" despite willingness to move to several places they do business including NYC and even Denver. There is no accountability from them as the only response they give is "the decision is final". There is no way to appeal a blatant lie. Their company has no integrity and side with business majors over people that know how chemicals and physics and electrical components work just seem like bad life decisions. They will say you can reapply but they won't hire you. They'd full of it at every angle.
