Pros

Can work your choice of hours Some managers are good and effectively support their teams.

Cons

Recognition and Compensation: Long-term employees receive no increased recognition or pay despite their tenure. The hourly rate of £12.60 is considerably lower than the £35 or more charged for private tutoring. Parents also pay around £35 a session but tutors (who do all the work) will only see around 20-30% of that Feedback and Improvement: Management does not actively seek or implement tutor feedback. Tutors are often asked for feedback at the last minute, with managers lacking interaction with the child, leading to a disconnect between the child’s needs and managerial decisions. Communication Issues: Managers conduct parent meetings without sufficient interaction with the child, and tutors are expected to provide feedback on short notice. Communication is generally poor, and conflicts are not handled effectively. Tutors on zero-hour contracts are particularly affected, with potential reduction in hours or being pushed out without proper support. Managerial Quality: A significant portion (about 70%) of managers are perceived as egotistical and lacking in interpersonal skills. The practice of promoting internally perpetuates poor management practices.
