If you get a manager that is qualified to do your job and others in your group then this manager knows that you have the qualities to suceed. If none of those things apply then you better start drinking with your boss.
Cons
It is still a click, good ol' boys network. You will not move up if you are Ethical, work hard, but do not go out with people from your team or boss. These is true across Dell. Having something in common with your boss and co-workers is a positive so apply for jobs that everyone on the team is like you. Also, learn to play the game. Working hard is key but if you do not know anything about your job talk like you do, attend meetings, take what your knowledgeable co-worker says and use it like its yours!
